When we look at people who make a difference in the world, they don’t go about trying to transform the

When we look at people who make a difference in the world, they don’t go about trying to transform the world all at once. They are satisfied in feeding one stomach, excited over placing a smile in one’s face, refining one mind, relieving one soul. They hold the unwavering faith that each individual’s life is important, that every life matters. They are satisfied with small changes. Over time though, these small changes add up to changing mentalities, cities, nations and eventually the world. One such person is Ms. Jolly Amatya, Chair of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations. She is the youngest and the first Nepali to ever get to this position in the history of the United Nations. Hailing from Lalitpur, and now based in Manhattan, New York; her conviction can be seen when she does what she loves and hopes to inspire more people to do the same. We had an online interview with her, and we got to know about her past, future and everything in between. Also, we got to know her more, as we went beyond just knowing about her professional career. She is a gem of a person, inside and out.

HOW DID YOU START OUT AND FIGURE OUT THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO?

Since my childhood, I always knew that I wanted to make a positive difference in my community, big or small. My upbringing, good schooling, and early involvement with nonprofit organizations led me to engage meaningfully. Through my travels, as I explored the pressing challenges across the globe, I developed a clearer grasp of the contribution and impact I could make. This helped me figure out my true calling, passion, and purpose in life.

Today, I work with UN entities, civil society, private sector, and member states to elevate the voices of young people in international dialogues, mobilize youth as agents of impactful change, and advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment. I love what I do and unearthing this wasn’t an easy task, nor was it something that I could figure out within a certain time frame. I pause, reflect, reevaluate regularly, and concentrate my attention and energy on the journey of exploration and discovery of mistakes and learning. It’s about the journey, not the destination.

YOU HAVE BEEN AN INSPIRATION FOR YOUTHS AROUND THE WORLD. YOU HAVE GIVEN SPEECHES THAT HAS GRABBED HEADLINES, GOTTEN PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO GUESS, DO WHAT YOU LOVE. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO THE GIRL FROM NEPAL?

As a young woman born and raised in Nepal, I always take immense pride in being able to represent our country in the international stage and contribute in shaping dialogues that matter. I feel extremely fortunate and blessed that I have the opportunity to do what I love through my work. But more than achievements, honors, accolades, and recognition, I find the biggest joy and sense of fulfillment when I see young people get inspired by my work and push themselves towards finding their passion and unleashing their potential.

Despite significant progress, a lot of challenges still do exist pertaining to the status of women in Nepal in terms of education, health, social security, employment, property rights, active participation and representation in politics, and leadership roles. And, being a girl from Nepal, I feel that I unequivocally owe certain responsibility to women and girls who look up to me. I see myself in all the young girls -– in their drive, in their resilience, perseverance, in their strong desire to rise above their circumstances and to reach for something more and to dream bigger in life, I hope that I can continue to inspire them to be assertive, recognize their inner strengths, take charge of their own lives, and lead by example.

They say who you are cannot be separated from where you came from. I will never forget my roots because it is what has made me who I am today.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE IN YOUR CAREER? WHAT MEASURES DO YOU TAKE TO OVERCOME THEM?

Taking over various leadership positions have not been easy. The fundamental biases and stereotypes towards a young person and a woman in power are still profound today. The success of my performance at work demanded unwavering commitment, self-discipline, and sacrifices, and it was painful and uncomfortable at times. I had to put in hours of relentless toll, countless efforts, sleepless nights, and personal sacrifices; but over time, I developed the courage and patience I needed to pursue my goals with vigor, passion, and zest. I also never limited myself. I strongly believe that you can go as far as your mind lets you. Perseverance, resilience, and tenacity are key.

WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR FIRST NOTEWORTHY ACHIEVEMENT IN YOUR CAREER; OR IS THERE A MOMENT THAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE A MILESTONE?

There are many events in my life that have shaped the journey of my career since my childhood. One thing has led to the other and I value all my experiences. But yes, being appointed as the Chair of the “Youth Assembly at the United Nations” was definitely a milestone in my career. Under my leadership, I got the opportunity to bring together more than 5000 youth delegates from more than 100 countries at the biannual conference at the UNHQ; develop ove 100 high level panels, workshops, and interactive sessions on the role of youth in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals; facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues, actions and resource mobilization between youth, civil society, the private sector, member states and the United Nations. I’ve had the privilege to work with exceptional youths from all across the globe and help them engage as beneficiaries, stakeholders, and leaders in the global movement for inclusive and sustainable development.

WHAT LIFE LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED IN THE LAST 5 YEARS?

Through my experiences in life, I’ve learnt that if we don’t believe in ourselves, nobody will. Also, it is necessary to fail because without failure, we’d be less capable of compassion, empathy, kindness, and great achievement. We need to use that as leverage to not only recuperate from it, but to help push us forward in the future and grow more.

TO WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE YOUR SUCCESS?

To a great extent, towards my parents, family, mentors, friends, and well-wishers. And in my personal case, my ambition, drive, determination, guts, integrity, hard work, and right timing.

WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO TODAY’S YOUTH WHO ARE ASPIRING AND WORKING TOWARDS THEIR CAREER, IN NEPAL AND ABROAD?

We, young people, are a part of the largest generation of youth in history. I would like to urge every young person reading this to go out there and be the protagonist of your own movements, be the strongest advocates for justice and equality, seek solutions that have never been sought before, initiate a systemic change, and proceed with gumption and an unapologetic enthusiasm to offer your passion in the form of service to others.

Dare to be different, be willing to take chances, don’t be afraid to challenge the norm, take ownership, and never let the fear of failure stop you. Be a lifelong student, throw your soul into your passion, lift others up and help them rise. You all are unique and have abundance of potential within you and only you can bring it out to fruition. Follow your dreams unapologetically and be grateful and appreciate of the life and people who love you.

IF NOT THIS, WHAT DO YOU SEE YOURSELF DOING? WHY?

It is hard to imagine my life not doing what I do. But if not this, I see myself as a singer, a chef, or a media personality.

WHAT ELSE YOU DO LIKE DOING? ANY INTERESTING PASTIMES OR HOBBIES?

I love singing, listening to music, meditating, reading, playing pool, and travelling. Focusing on my wellness has also stirred up my fondness for hiking and has brought me closer to nature which is absolutely therapeutic. I always find time to volunteer with different organizations, speak at public forums, and mentor young aspiring leaders.

NAME 3 PET PEEVES THAT ABSOLUTELY DRIVE YOU NUTS?

Lack of empathy and compassion, arrogance, and chronic negativity.

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY HANGOUT WHEN YOU COME TO NEPAL? ANY PLACE THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO VISIT WHEN YOU COME HERE?

I love trying new places to hangout every time I visit. But I absolutely cannot miss hanging out in Mangalbazaar with my school friends. I grew up around the area and have the fondest of memories of my childhood and school years. Also, a Pokhara visit is a must; one of my favorite places, and also the birthplace of my mother.

LOCATION: TONE MUSIC STORE

PHOTOS: PRITAM CHETTRI

MAKE UP: SWASTIKA HAIR AND MAKEUP STUDIO

The melodies of classic love songs and Bollywood magic have enraptured the masses for generations. Although its popularity might have wavered from time to time, with modern music taking the limelight, there is no denying the classics have a way of outshining the competition when put up to the task.

We stumbled across Trishala’s Facebook page a long time ago and were spell bound by her talents. Usually, at this point, we drone on and on about how stunningly beautiful she was and how we had to sit down for a bit (not saying that that didn’t happen); but it was her singing voice that left us spellbound. Her renditions of classing Nepali and Hindi songs are captivating, to say the least, and we just couldn’t get enough of her.

Add to it the fact that she is the cutest possible human being on the face of the earth and you have reason enough to go weak in the knees. Thanks to our day jobs, we are allowed to stalk, track and take photos of someone we are obsessed with without being judged by society. We did exactly that.

Turns out she’s more than just a beautiful face and voice. Believe it or not, she’s completing her MBBS. Beauty with brains, talk about a killer combo. This is as close to perfection as it gets if you ask us.

WHAT SORT OF WITCHCRAFT DO YOU PRACTICE IN ORDER TO DO YOUR MBBS, SING AND PERFORM, AND STILL LOOK DROP DEAD GORGEOUS 24X7?

Oh Stop. *Blushes* I don’t believe I am any different to all the beautiful girls out there. Everyone takes care of themselves in today’s world whether they be studying MBBS or Arts. I just feel blessed to have such strong supporters who love my singing and honestly no one would have known had it not been for them. So I owe them a lot really.

BUT SERIOUSLY, YOU’VE GOT A LOT ON YOUR PLATE. HOW DO YOU MANAGE EVERYTHING?

Music has always been an escape for me. As a medical student I do have a lot of studies to do but I wouldn’t say I need time aside for music, I will always have time for music.

WHAT GOT YOU INTO MUSIC?

I have my older brother to thank; he introduced me to different kinds of music. As the little sister I have always looked up to him and slowly these songs really grew on to me and when I figured out that I could sing, music has been the love of my life.

IS THERE A FAVORITE GENRE THAT YOU HAVE?

Not really, I actually listen to all types of genres. It may not look like it but I grew up listening to alternative rock.

DO YOU HAVE A CERTAIN STYLE THAT YOU RELATE WITH MOST?

In English it’s mostly R’n’b and with Nepali and Hindi it’s mostly melodious songs.

WHO ARE YOUR MUSICAL INSPIRATIONS?

I’ve always been a huge fan of Alicia Keys ever since I was a little girl, but recently I have been following a lot of Tori Kelly.

ARE YOU PLANNING ON TRYING OUT A CAREER IN MUSIC BEFORE YOU FINALLY SETTLE IN AS A DOCTOR?

No, not really. Music has always just been a hobby. It’s something that helps me think and relax. I am not really looking forward to a career in music but if the stars do align, I wouldn’t mind it.

WHAT WOULD A GUY HAVE TO DO TO GET YOUR ATTENTION?

He would need to appreciate music just as much as I do. That is a must!

HOW DO YOU REACT WHEN YOU GET HIT ON, WHICH WE ASSUME HAPPENS A LOT?

I’ve got friends who hardly let that happen and even if it does all us girl’s got each other’s backs.

Confessions are in order. We stalk Instagram profiles of hot girls for a living; it doesn’t reflect well on our image but it’s part of the job and we take it very seriously. Every once in a while we stumble across a profile that brings the entire office around a phone, gawking over each other’s shoulders. That’s pretty much what happened when we came across Lumi’s profile. Don’t believe us, check her out for yourself.

Anyways, we finally got hold of her and talked her into clicking a few photographs with us. Best. Decision. Ever. Not only is she scorching hot 24/7, she is a dedicated professional who struts the corporate path. A beautiful girl with a drive and passion to match, Lumi furthered her studies in France after high school. Naturally, having heard so much about how sexy the French language sounded, we asked her to say something in French; and we kid you not there was an immediate and distinct rise in temperature in the room. We didn’t understand a word she said but we imagined it was something pretty hot.

TNM: IS FRANCE AS ROMANTIC AS THEY SAY IT IS?

Not to sound so stereotypical but, honestly, France exudes romanticism; in their places, in their people, in their wine, in their language. I was blown away the first time I went to Paris.

France is hands down the most romantic place ever and the moment you enter the country you can feel it in the air.

TNM: GIVE US A GOOD PICKUP LINE, IN FRENCH, THAT WOULD GET ATTENTION OF A BEAUTIFUL GIRL. MAYBE ONE WITH A HOT SET OF LIPS.

Honestly, French guys don’t really use pick-up lines. They are quite direct with their approach. They would just ask you out without any hesitation. I believe they think their accent does the job. But, I kinda like this one, “Est-ce que tu crois au coup de foudre au premier regard ou est-ce que je dois repasser?”

(Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk by again?)

TNM: WE KNOW YOU WORK HARD, BUT YOU ALSO KNOW HOW TO KICK UP YOUR HEELS AND RELAX. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO BE A DEDICATED PROFESSIONAL WHEN IT COMES TO WORK?

I think dedication at work comes naturally when you actually love what you are doing. Hospitality & Fashion is where my passion lies but if I really like and enjoy what I am doing, I could totally get lost in it and walk a few miles and even forget that I’m wearing heels.

TNM: DO PEOPLE TREAT YOU DIFFERENTLY AT WORK IN ANY WAY?

Umm… I’m not really sure because I think it really depends from person to person. But being a girl, you do get certain privileges some times.

TNM: JUDGING FROM THE TIME WE SPENT WITH YOU, YOU’RE ONE OF THE SWEETEST PEOPLE AROUND. BUT WE CAN’T HELP BUT HOPE THAT THERE’S A SEXY MEAN STREAK IN THERE SOMEWHERE; IS THERE? HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH ASSHOLES AT WORK?

Firstly, thank you! You guys
were really sweet too and super fun to work with. (SCORE!) I generally am a sweet person but I can’t tolerate a**holes. I don’t tolerate indecency, unfairness and disrespect from anyone. If someone treats me badly, I stand up for myself and deal with them and put them in their place for sure. I think no matter how sweet or good of a person you are, you should never tolerate disrespect and bad behavior.

TNM: DO GUYS HIT ON YOU A LOT? DOES IT EVER WORK?

Haha. Yes, they do. It usually doesn’t work unless there is something really special about the person.

TNM: SO WHAT GETS YOUR ATTENTION IN A GUY?

Confidence, a strong personality and ambition.

TNM: BEFORE WE GET AHEAD OF OURSELVES, WE’LL JUST COME OUT AND ASK, ARE YOU SINGLE?

No (internally screaming in agony).

TNM: TELL US SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT.

I was pretty much a nerd back in school. (a pretty hot one, we bet)

TNM: AND SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE WHO KNOW YOU DEFINITELY KNOW ABOUT YOU.

I am very ambitious and I tend to laugh at my own jokes a lot

In our line of work we get to meet a lot of beautiful women, and we get to chat with

In our line of work we get to meet a lot of beautiful women, and we get to chat with them and hangout. Honestly, it’s more than we could ask for and these perks really make coming to the job a lot of fun. This time around, we might just have hit the jackpot with this gorgeous stunner of a lady, Lemii Tamang.

Lemii is the kind of girl who will have you smitten to the point of spilling your drink at the party, or burning your shirt when you’re ironing it, or forgetting all about your date when she passes you by at the restaurant. And it will happen a few of more times before you finally find your composure.

Currently one of the most sought after makeup artists in the country, she has recently opened up her own studio at Bhatkeko Pool, Kathmandu. It also turns out she has a knack for sketching, and she is pretty good at that too. We had plenty of time to find that out because we had been stalking her since god knows when we just couldn’t help it

1.Honestly, how many men hit on you on when you’re going out for the night?

I normally hangout with a selected group of friends, so there haven’t been too many unruly approaches. However, I have had few incidents with a few sleaze balls.

2.And how do you normally respond to them?

I have this “I’m not interested” face that I have perfected which seems to repel most guys.
We’re not sure if that’s even possible but we’ll take your word for it.

3.We understand you have quiet the busy schedule?

I have a lot of things going right now. There’s college and a fine arts, some blogging that I do part time, I am part of an NGO and I’m a makeup artist. I’m always on the run. My classes start early in the morning, then makeup appointments, attend a few meetings (if there are any), hit the gym and work on my blog/ social media sites and college assignments at home.

4.How did you get into makeup? When did you know that a career in beauty was for you?

I was always very passionate about arts. I used to sketch and paint a lot during my teens. Once I reached the age when my mum allowed me to wear makeup, I started experimenting with it. I tried things out on myself and anyone who’d let me try on them. That’s when it started, I think.

5.How did you get your start in the industry?

I wasn’t focused about the industry when I started out. I am an artist at heart and I consider makeup as an expression of art. So I just did what I loved. When I started posting makeup pictures on Instagram, people liked it and I started taking appointments when I was asked. Things started picking up soon enough.

6.You’re very good with sketches. What came first, art or makeup?

Art, of course!

7.If you were to choose between being known as a makeup artist or just an artist what would you choose?

At the moment, makeup artist, but I will soon develop myself as an artist as well.

8.What inspires you most in life?

I try to get inspired by most of the things around me (mostly nature) and I try to put that in my work. One of my biggest inspirations is my mom who inspires me every day, motivates me to work hard and supports me in every way possible.

9.What has been the biggest challenge yet in your career?

Things have just started and so far, I haven’t faced any big challenges and I feel very lucky about it.

10.If a customer asks for a style that you are sure would not suit them, how do you convince the customer to go otherwise?

I suggest a different look for them and my clients trust my advice.

11.Do you think it is justified for men to feel cheated when a woman is not anywhere close to being as beautiful without makeup as she is with it?

You cannot go around wearing a full faced makeup every day, at least I advise people not to do that. As long as you’re keeping your makeup as natural as possible, it won’t look fake and there is no need to feel cheated.

12.Do you think the men of Kathmandu will be more metrosexual in the coming days, which might lead to opportunities involving makeup experiments on men? (Personally, we’re hoping the day never comes.)

I hope so, that would be very interesting.

13.Where would we take you on a date if we really wanted to impress you?

Somewhere far away amidst a natural setting, with quiet serenity and a beautiful view.

House of Fashion has been successfully producing some of the most talented models who have shone in the limelight. The vivacious Bidhatri Pokhrel, the stunning Niti Shah and the stunning Neha Banu have reigned supreme and with the 2015 EnVogue done and dusted, a wave of new faces are appearing.

Ayushman and Arpana clinched the titles as the EnVogue face of House of Fashion 2015. Both are off to a blistering start, but a young Sophia Shrestha caught our eye. She was crowned the second runner up in the competition but we see bigger things in her future. We caught up with Sophia to find out more about the young beauty.

Krisha Shahi is one of the youngest faces in the fast growing modeling scene and has a fun, lively personality

Krisha Shahi is one of the youngest faces in the fast growing modeling scene and has a fun, lively personality to go with it. She has a smile that brightens a room and curves that could instantly render any man smitten. Her journey started as first runner up in Little Miss Nepal 2010 which paved ways for her to become one of the most promising young models in the country right now. And she is a bundle of talent as well. While some girls have a hobby of shopping, Krisha likes to WWWbang on the drums and tabla. We love a girl with unorthodox talents, don’t you?

However, they say a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and we wanted to know if she was up for the challenge. We’re suckers when it comes to hot girls with pretty smiles, and we ended up asking Krisha random questions. Turns out that was more fun than cooking, so we ordered some pizza, bought some icecream instead.

Now we’re not sure Krisha knows how to cook but she sure knows how to make a mess, and we aren’t complaining. Also, she proved that a man’s stomach isn’t the only way to our hearts. Pretend to read the answers while you look through the photographs.

SO YOU PLAY THE DRUMS AND TABLE?

I was fond of playing the drums since I was small. I grew up watching my dad play which really helped me get into it. I joined the Nepal Music Center where I also learned how to play the tabla.

I was fond of playing the drums since I was small.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE TRIED, BUT WILL NEVER DO AGAIN?

Pork and beef. Never again.

WHAT QUIRKY HABIT DO YOU HAVE?

I make jokes and try to be funny, call it quirky if you want. People can like me for my sense of humor if not anything else. Some of the jokes I tell are funny and I get a reaction, others are not. But I understand that I don’t really have to try so hard. God loves me and I can just be myself too.

WOULD YOU RATHER READ A BOOK OR WATCH A MOVIE?

Watch a movie.

WHAT IS ONE PLACE IN THE WORLD YOU WISH YOU LIVED?

The Bora Bora Island located in the French Polynesia.

I wouldn’t say I’m the devil, but I’m no goody two shoes either.

WOULD YOU RATHER BE LOVED OR HAVE MONEY?

Love is at times even harder to achieve, but because of my experiences I would enjoy having the means to make myself happy. If you don’t have love, there is nothing money can buy that will bring you happiness, however, a little bit of money can ease stress and allows you to help your love ones.

WHO HAS INFLUENCED YOU MOST IN YOUR LIFE?

My family.

WHAT IS ONE CAREER YOU WOULD LOVE TO ENTER?

At one point in my life, I wanted to be a doctor. I’d still love to be a nephrologist – a doctor who specializes in kidney care treating diseases related to the kidney.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE BEFORE YOU DIE?

I want to go snorkeling and deep sea diving to experience marine life up close.

ARE YOU A TROUBLE MAKER?

I wouldn’t say I’m the devil, but I’m no goody two shoes either.

Love is at times even harder to achieve, but because of my experiences I would enjoy having the means to make myself happy.

WHAT DO YOU REALLY LOOK FOR IN A MAN?

Trust, confidence, a good sense of humor and good chemistry with me. Looks are not as important, but they do matter too. And I tend to fall for tall guys with a nice voice.

HOPING THAT YOU DON’T BREAK OUR HEARTS, ARE YOU SINGLE?

Sabita’s legs are so fine we wish they’d never end, and it seems like they never do. The slim sultry

Sabita’s legs are so fine we wish they’d never end, and it seems like they never do. The slim sultry beauty has one of the hottest legs we’ve seen and we’re very observant when it comes to the attributes of the fairer sex.

It’s not just the pretty package that has us grinning wider than the Chesire cat. Sabita is the rare blend of beauty and brains that every man looks for. And to top it off, she’s got a heart of gold. Her modeling career started when she was spotted by a photo studio during an educational fair. Talk about a lucky break. We catch up with this exotic beauty who’s currently studying Chartered Accountancy. See, smart!

Check out her likes and dislikes while we mess up our financial reports and hire a hot CA. And we got straight to the point.

1) Are you single?

Yes, I’m single and very happy.

2) Hmm.. Interesting. Just out of curiosity, what traits do you look for in a man?

Compassion would be a great characteristic to see in a man. Someone who’d go out of his way to help someone less fortunate, like the homeless or orphans, would definitely have my attention. But at the end of the day, an honest heart is what makes the difference.

3) What turns you on?

Good food

4) And your turnoffs?

Bad breath.

5) What would you say are your strongest and weakest traits?

Confidence would be my strong suit and my inability to handle rejection would be my Achilles’ heel.

6) What would a guy have to do to impress you?

There isn’t much a guy can do because impressing me depends on the mood I’m in. But dark chocolates and flowers could be a good start.

7) If you were given a chance, which part of the world would you go to?

I’d love to go to Greece.

8) Is there something you wish you were better at?

I’d love to better hone my cooking skills.

9) Tell us one thing people don’t know about you.

I guess a lot of people have no idea I used to work for street children via Nepal Mother Foundation. I’m also currently working as a social activist and looking forward to Mission Jajorkot and the campaign of “Safe water Save life’’ with BEING HOMO SAPIENS charity.

Oh Goody! Summer is here. That means the season of bikini clad hotties is back! And we’re bringing it back

Oh Goody! Summer is here. That means the season of bikini clad hotties is back! And we’re bringing it back with a bang! The scorching hot Alka Rai sizzles on our feature and we talk to the young maiden who is currently studying law. Beauty with brains… we like that. Might as well commit a crime and call ourselves a lawyer.

As a model what kind of experiences have you had?

It’s been two years since I started modeling and I have experienced a lot. The chance to work with many talented directors, designers and photographers was a blessing. I started off as a Nepal Fashion Week runway model and till now it has been an amazing experience. I’ve been featured in various different magazines and music videos and this wide range of work has helped me develop professionally as well as in terms of personal grooming. Being one of the top 5 candidates as the face of Classic Diamond boosted my confidence. It has been an amazing journey so far and I hope to take this side of my career to the next level.

Can you tell us about your best experience you’ve had?

My best modeling assignment till today is working with director Ian Clement for two different music videos. It was such a great learning period for me and I learned a lot about various aspects of working ethics and other great techniques during the shoots with him.

What do you prefer diamonds or chocolate?

I’m not a big fan of either of them but if I had to, I would choose diamonds. Logically, I can sell diamonds and get as many chocolates as I want. (Laughs)

If you are given a free pass, which place on earth would you go to?

I’d go to Ashford, Kent which is located at United Kingdom to see my boyfriend. (Our hearts shattered into a million pieces)

As a kid, were you skinny or chubby?

I was a normal girl (laughs) and I am still am. Now I work out regularly to stay fit just like almost everyone else. It’s not about being skinny, it’s about being healthy and staying fit.

What’s the most mischievous prank that you have played on someone?

Well, like Taylor Swift says “Baby I am a nightmare dressed as a day dream”, I have had my hands full with tiny pranks which I solely only play it on with my close ones.

So when it comes down to THE most notorious one I would have to say once when I was drunk, I waxed my friend Mahir Malla’s legs while he was sleeping (laughs with an evil smile)

How’d you describe yourself as a person?

I’m a fun loving person, I live, eat and breathe adventure. I love to spend most of my time with my closest friends and my pets. I am one of those crazy dog lovers, you see. There are times I am really high on life and there are times when I am really low. If I care about something, I give it my all and if I don’t I simply don’t.

What’s the cheesiest thing anyone has ever done for you?

A boy literally gave me some cheese once; that’s as cheesy as it has gotten for me.

What kind of music are you into and why?

I like all kinds of music, it depends in the kind of mood I’m in.

Photos: Shashank Pradhan

Make Up : Swastika Rajbhandari

Hair: Bigen Tamang

Location: Hotel Shambala

Neck piece: Accessories. Nep X, RB Complex, Newroad

Wrist choker: Accessories. Nep X, RB Complex, Newroad

When god makes them hot, he makes them scorching. And my did he take his time with the insanely hot

When god makes them hot, he makes them scorching. And my did he take his time with the insanely hot Rasna Pradhan. A head turner in every sense of the word, her never ending legs and her curvaceous bode had us grinning from ear to ear. Her tattoos were the icing on the cake.

After pushing our tongues back into our mouths, we had a small chat with the charming Rasna Pradhan.

You call yourself CHARM Rasna Pradhan in most of your social network profiles. Is that a nick name.

Actually Charm is an abbreviation of my first name. I never liked anyone calling me by my real name but I hated it when my friends used to tease me by singing an annoying song which apparently has my name in it. So when I got a chance to change it I took the opportunity and shortened it down. Now, don’t go guessing my name.

Did you stumble into the modeling industry or was it a dream of yours?

No, it wasn’t a coincidence for me. My mother always wanted me to become a model. My mother works for an event management company so she asked me to model for one of the events. After completing the event the word spread and here I am modeling for TNM (she laughs, so do we)

I cannot help but notice your tattoos, what’s the story behind them all?

In total I have four tattoos: on my ring finger, forearm, ankle and last but not the least on my feet. I got all of these tattoos in one day when I was 19 years old. People say that when you leave this earth, all you take with you are your memories and your tattoos, so I got a few things to take with me on the other side.

On my ring finger I have inked Om Shree Ganesaya Nama because I am very religious. On my forearm, I have imprinted my father’s, mother’s and sister’s name as they are my universe. On my ankle I have ia water lily and on my feet a quote that says “live free, appreciate life”.

One thing which you cannot live without?

It has to be my perfume collection. I need my daily dose of sweet scents; without it I feel incomplete. I can’t bear bad body odor and my senses are extra sensitive when it comes to it.

Few traits you look in a man?

I find confident men very attractive; it’s one of the traits of the opposite sex which appeals to me. I would define confident men as someone who knows what he wants. But I despise men who are over confident; they simply annoy me with their exaggerated conversation. A man with a confident personality will debate with me, I don’t want him to agree blindly with everything I say.

One thing about men that turns you off.

Broken English, that really puts me off instantly. If they cannot speak simple and proper English they really don’t have to. They can just speak in Nepali. I appreciate their effort but I cannot help but run away from them.

FEW PICK UP LINES USED ON YOU BY MEN

These are the cheesiest pick up lines I have ever encountered

I’m a thief and I’m here to steal your heart.

You need to get me a drink because when I looked at you I dropped mine!

Is it hot in here or it is just you?

Can I drink you? Because I love Rasna juice!

Oh you are so charming just like your name “Charm”

When you get married to someone you don’t do it for their looks. You fall in love with their heart, their personality and their soul. They say when love really happens, it is written in the stars and it’s a magical miracle that goes way beyond the things that are only skin deep.

Now that we got that out of the way, feast your eyes on what we think the perfect bride could look like. Excuse our vanity, but the sizzling Srijana Regmi is worth the accusation. Yes we are vain, we succumb to the beauty of women and so do you. We honestly wouldn’t mind having her waiting for us. Would you?

Core Fitness Studio will hand you your butt on a platter, especially to those who think Zumba is an emasculating

Core Fitness Studio will hand you your butt on a platter, especially to those who think Zumba is an emasculating fitness art for the ladies. Owners and trainers Doma Bajracharya, Shristi Shrestha and Tina Gurung make it look easy, with their yoga, zumba, pilates and other workouts that will have any man struggling to catch a breath.

There is no doubting the effectiveness of the Core Fitness Studio’s services, and these women stand testament to it. Tina and Doma are group fitness instructors who orchestrate the fat torching sessions at Core. Keeping fit makes life all the better for Tina while Doma is helplessly addicted to it. Shristi is a Zumba and Pilates instructor who has a keen interest in Yoga. Tall, sleek and slender, it was surprising to learn that fitness and looks fall on separate boats for Shristi. “For me, being fit does not mean looking lean or slim, but being fit means feeling strong from within.”

These three women and their endeavors to keep fit and help others reach their personal fitness goals caught our eye. So we got in touch with them to find out how they stay in shape and how they feel about fitness.

How did The Core Studio come around and what does it have to offer?

Tina: Doma, Shristi and I had the same passion for fitness and dance. Then things fell into place and Core Studio was born. We offer various group fitness classes from Zumba, Zumba Toning, Total Body Workout, Circuit Training, Pilates, PowerPump, Yoga, Piloxing, B-boying, Kick boxing, etc.

Shristi: It’s like Tina said, we wanted to start something of our own that incorporated fitness, wellness and dance. Once I got together with Doma and Tina, I could see that they had the same drive to promote this culture to the people from all sections. We clicked instantly and came up with the concept of the studio and the motivation to carry out our dream and turn it into reality.

Doma: We shared a passion, so we wanted to share what we love and bring awareness in fitness and that’s how core studio was born. We offer a variety of group lessons from Aerobics, Zumba, Pilates, Strengthening to dance classes.

We all know how difficult it is to get fit and then maintain what you have worked so hard for. What keeps you motivated?

Tina: Being a fitness instructor has definitely motivated me to stay fit. As fitness and balanced diet has been part of my lifestyle, I would say it’s been fairly easy to keep my weight in check and stay toned.

Shristi: It is never a difficult thing for me. I dance to stay fit and dancing has always been my burning force within. I do what I love, I am fortunate enough that the thing i love most also keeps me fit. It is motivation enough.

Doma: My passion towards fitness and dance keeps me motivated which has definitely played a key role.

Give us a tour of your fitness regimen?

Tina: I have scheduled classes each week, which I follow vigorously. It comprises of Zumba and circuit training for Cardio and Pilates & Piloxing for core strengthening and toning.

Shristi: I am a Vegetarian. That means no animal products on my plate. I do an hour of Yoga every day after getting 8 hours of sleep. My breakfast is comprised of nuts, multigrain bread, olives and peanut butter with black or green tea.I make sure I eat at regular intervals and not being a binge eater by nature helps. I don’t eat a lot of junk food and take in as much fluids (water) as I can. I take 5 classes a week which makes me clear headed and keeps me sane in this stressful environment we call society. Dieting is not for me, I never skip a meal either. And since I love fruits, I make sure that I have my share of seasonal fruits every day. Anyone can follow this and stay fit while eating healthy.

Doma: The group lessons that I conduct make up most of my fitness regime as it takes a lot of energy. Apart from that, I do a bit of swimming. I love swimming.

Which is your favourite workout?

Tina: Pilates and Piloxing (at the moment)

Shristi: I love Zumba, which is why I teach it. I absolutely enjoy Pilates. It gives strength to my core and forms a flexible and balanced body structure. Belly dancing and Yoga also come amongst my favorites.

Doma: Anything challenging would be my favourite workout. I love Ashtanga yoga at the moment.

Are you strict about your diet and nutrition?

Tina: A balanced diet is a must, and being a foodie I need to maintain a good balance of what I eat. I don’t restrict my diet, however, I do try to balance my food intake as in “my plate” plan, which is more effective than food pyramids.

Shristi: Contrary to popular belief, one can lead a healthy and balanced life as a vegetarian. My diet strictly comprises of lots of greens, nuts, fruits, fluids, mushrooms, tofu, beans and lot of healthy meals that covers all necessary aspects of a healthy diet.

Doma: I am a big time foodie but junk food is one thing I never liked and I try my best to eat healthy.

One food that you just can’t resist.

Tina: Managey momo and timur tomato achar yummmm

Shristi: Simple Daal and Rice with fried potatoes, Spinach and spicy tomato pickle.

Doma: There is a Newari delicacy called boolla, the dish made from a concoction of rice beer and buffalo organs. and of course Natte’ which my Manang friends make, it’s made out of dried powdered spinach with dried yak’s meat. I love trout too, I can’t resist that.

One advice that has worked wonders for you in terms of getting and staying fit.

Tina: To make fitness and a balanced diet part of your lifestyle.

Shristi: “You are stronger than you think!”

Do you have a cheat day? How do you celebrate it?

Doma: I have cheat days on most of our cultural festivals and when us friends get together for barbecues….I treat myself to spare ribs.

How is the female fitness scene in Nepal changing?

Tina: The female fitness scene scene has witnessed a considerable increment in female fitness participation since Zumba was introduced in Nepal. It’s great to see women of all ages, enjoying and having fun while working out. We hope to see women participating in strength and conditioning workouts in the future, which will help them in flexibility and strength building.

Shristi: More and more women are coming out of their submissive order. They wish to get leaner and fitter and stronger. However, I do wish that more women would be serious about what they eat and what kind of lifestyle they lead. I am waiting for more women to come to me and say they want to be fitter because they want to be healthy and gain confidence in themselves rather than coming for a short time because someone’s wedding is coming up.

Doma: Zumba has brought huge changes in female fitness scene in Nepal. Nepali women whether young or old seem to love Zumba. Zumba’s slogan “Fitness in disguise” has worked wonders for the female fitness scene in Nepal.

Do you prefer guys that are ripped but not too big or bulky and muscular?

Doma: Men who are lean look appealing.

Your favourite tune to work out to at the moment.

Tina: Wicked – Veronica Vega featuring Pitbull

Shristi: Come On to Me by Mazor Lazer

Doma: Timber by Keisha

Men need to be reminded of how strong women can be, as they are often quick to undermine the female gender’s capacity. To prove the strength of women, one could ramble on about the miracle and pains of holding a baby for 9 months in the womb and bringing new life into this world; that usually shuts any naysayers. However, that tends to get old in a rush. This is a story about seven very ordinary women who are showing the world that they are anything but.

The journey of these seven brave women started with the ‘First Inclusive Women Sagarmatha Expedition 2008 Spring’, an expedition that comprised of ten women The journey of these seven brave women started with the ‘First Inclusive Women Sagarmatha Expedition 2008 Spring’, an expedition that comprised of ten women. The team included 10 ten Nepali women, from 17-27 years-old, representing a range of the country’s castes and ethnicities. It was the first time that women from the Brahmin, Chettri, Danuwar, and Gurung communities had summited Mount Everest. For these fearless women, the expedition was not only about making it to the summit in 75 days but also about breaking down barriers for Nepali women in a currently male-dominated society and inspiring in them the confidence to pursue new roles, not just within climbing and adventure sports, but within Nepal itself. By doing so, they shattered the socio-cultural barriers of our patriarchal society.

After completing the expedition , Out of the ten participants, seven women– Shailie Basnet, Maya Gurung, Pemadiki Sherpa, Pujan Acharya, Chunu Shrestha, Nimadoma Sherpa and Asha Kumari decided to do something more for the country and women all over the world. On January 2009, they formed a team called ‘Everest Women Seven Summits Eco- Action Team’ with a massive mission of climbing the highest mountain on each of the seven continents, to wave the Nepali flag across the world and to inspire women and youth to go after their dreams. So far, the team has climbed the highest mountains in five countries and with only 2 more to go, these women seem more determined than ever!

To know more about their expedition and their future plans, we caught up with Shailee Basnet, one of the members as well as the coordinator of the Seven Summits Women Team. This is what she had to say on behalf of all her team mates.

1. How did you all come to know each other?

We enrolled as members of the ‘First Inclusive Women Sagarmatha Expedition 2008 Spring’. The organizers, Climber’s Club was looking for members to join the expedition. We all came to know about it from various sources and signed up.

2. What sparked this expedition?

The idea for organizing the Everest expedition came from Da Gombu Sherpa and Pemba Dorje Sherpa. We enrolled and climbed as a team of 10 Nepali women and all of us made it to the summit of Everest. After Everest some of us wanted to continue as a team and relive such an experience. That is actually how the Seven Summits mission started.

3. What is the key objective behind this initiative?

Our dream is to wave the Nepali flag across 7 continents. Our goal is to compile the knowledge gained in the epic journey into an educational book. While ‘Together We Reach Higher’ is our mantra. In a nutshell, our objective is to highlight education, empowerment and environment as the keys to attain great heights which helps humankind reach our highest potential.

4. What are the challenges the team has faced in the journey till date?

We would say many and of all sorts. Climbing itself comprises challenges that are physical, mental as well as technical. Preparing for mountains take a lot of effort and dedication. In addition, for a big team to put the climb together financially and logistically is a surmounting task. The non-climbing challenges have actually been truly testing which has made us much stronger and mature in the last 7 years.

5. As a team, what according to you are your biggest achievements, so far?

The answer is in your question. Our biggest achievement is that we are a team that has stood together through thick and thin. This journey has not been easy at all. Yet we have survived being broke for almost 7 years chasing a big common dream. People find that implausible all the time and it even surprises us at times. From just another face in the crowd, we have as a team reached the highest peaks in 5 continents already. It has been a humbling journey that we can be proud of.

6. As activists, and particularly as women, you must have had faced many obstacles – what helped you overcome them? Where did you find the strength and courage that has sustained you throughout the movement over all these years?

Yes, there have been many obstacles and every time we come across such situations, we deal with it. Yes, the easier option might be to quit it all; but somehow we have been able to put one step after another. And when you can do that continuously, overtime it becomes a major strength and a driving force. That’s all we’ve done, one tiny step after another.

7. What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a part of a change, but just doesn’t know how they can make a difference?

When one doesn’t know how, where or what, then the best thing to do is to help someone else bring the change they are working for. It may be someone building schools, cleaning Bagmati, raising gender awareness… it could be anything. Supporting someone’s initiative is being a part of a change indeed. And many a times it opens doors to understanding your passion and how you can make a difference.

8. How do you view the situation for women and girls around the country today? What according to you are the areas where women really need to step up?

Women need to step up everywhere and so does the society. Changes are happening, it’s normal to see kick-ass women in various sectors. However, a girl is still groomed to certain roles and expectations even in the most modern families. What’s worse, we accept them not even knowing that sky is the limit for our potential. Every single family and society needs to restructure how a girl is raised.

9. You travel so much and work so tirelessly, what do you do to nourish and recharge yourself?

I personally stay in touch with my spiritual side. Spirituality is pure science. Just like we need to brush and shower to keep our body clean and recharged we need real activities to cleanse our mind and soul. All the physical travel is meaningless if the journey inside doesn’t evolve. It is the journey inside that nourishes me, recharges me and energizes me. Besides, I’ve been doing stand-up comedy for a few years. It’s my stressbuster. And of course movies, spending time with family and friends are foolproof rejuvenation techniques

10. If you could have the ears of all the leaders of Nepal, what is the one message you would most want to tell them?

We may have made a lot of progress, but what more needs to be done? First, we need to change our national attitude. I remember in my younger years we always read, learnt, heard ‘Nepal is a small country, poor country, with xyz problems.’ That has been ruining it for everyone. Today, the young generation are either being produced for consumption as cheap labours or for western market. It’s difficult to come across youth who see a bright future for themselves in their own country. I’m not against anyone deciding to live or work in a different country but it should be an empowered choice not a helpless way out. So this would be my message- First, start communicating that we are a brilliant country with amazing potential where everyone can fit prosperously. Then with local partnership identify avenues and invest in utilizing the youth energy in a way that pumps our economy.

“I can’t eat food I don’t like. I’d rather eat a chocolate bar and drink some juice than eat something that my taste buds disagree with,” explained Sipora reaching over for the Chicken Butter Masala, “but this food is good.” Sipora Gurung was paving a path for her volleyball career when a devastating knee injury brought things to a screeching halt. After a successful knee surgery, the incident has left a scar on her knee, but has done little to dampen her spirits. Talented, sporty and a sight for sore eyes, Sipora is back on the bandwagon. We loved hanging out with the spirited sport and can’t wait to see her spiking a ball over the net in competition.

1. When did you first decide to become a volleyball player?

I started playing volleyball at a very early age. Back then, I had no thoughts of becoming a professional player, I just played because I loved it and by the time I grew up, without realising I was already into it.

2. Who is your favourite athlete or sportsman/ woman of all time and why?

Maria Sharapova is my all-time favourite. During my injury period, I used to watch all her injury videos and how she got back from it, which motivated and inspired me a lot.

3. Who do you look up to most in life?

Definitely my mom, she is my idol.

4. What would you say is your strongest and weakest trait?

I am a hard worker and a go- getter. Coming to my weakest trait, it would be my lack of time management skills.

5. How important is fitness for an athlete or a common person?

I think fitness is very important whether it be an athlete or a common person.

6. Your views on making a comeback from an injury

It was really hard when people did not understand what I was going through. Life taught me a great lesson; I got to know about the cruel side of the world and even learnt to deal with it. I knew volleyball was my passion and I had to get back to it, and when I finally did, I felt like I was on top of the world.

7. Are you Single at the moment? What qualities are required in a man to sweep you off your feet?

YES! I am. Well I’m very selective in nature, so a guy would have to do a lot to impress me.

8. What is your idea of a perfect date?

A day hike, on a beautiful day at a beautiful place

9. You have any plans of shifting careers in the future?

Right now, I have no plans as such.

10. If you were given 10 lakhs what would you do?

I would spend it on my kids for their academic excellence, (I work for orphans)!

11. What attracts you the most, brains or looks?

Brains for sure.

12. Is there something you wish you were better at?

I wish could sing as well haha!

13. Do you like experimenting with new things in life?

A big yes, I LOVE experimenting with new things in life.

14. What super power do you dream of having?

I have never thought about that. I have seen so many people who have done a lot without having superpowers, so I would like to follow their path instead.

15. Staying cosy at home with family or partying all night?

I am a very boring person; I choose to stay cosy at home.

16. Is there anything that people don’t know about you yet?

I dance, I may not be very good at it, but I love it!

When an individual is constantly under media attention, he/she is praised for their work but scrutinized for trivial slip-ups: praised

When an individual is constantly under media attention, he/she is praised for their work but scrutinized for trivial slip-ups: praised for an outstanding role in a movie, criticized when they wear the same outfit more than once. The glamour industry does appear to be glorified in many ways, but there is always the risk of the glitz and glory succumbing like a falling house of cards.

Winner of Miss Teen Nepal 2005, Priyanka Karki hasn’t looked back from the early flare of media popularity. She was the face of a number of popular brands, hosted TV shows as a VJ, acted in a sitcom, had her own show (The Glam Factor). After completing her Bachelors in Filmmaking from the USA, she came back to Nepal to try her hand at movies.

Today, few would argue that Priyanka Karki is the hardest working person in Nepali showbiz. With a reputation of putting in a staggering amount of effort in all of her projects, Priyanka Karki has earned the respect of the movie industry and a considerable fan following. Relishing every chance she gets to push her comfort zone, Priyanka is as versatile as she is talented. On top of her game and thoroughly deserving of the acclaim, Priyanka is definitely running the show.

Is it true that you were an honors student?

Yes, most definitely an honor student.

How did you decide on choosing a career in the movie business?

I was always interested in media and showbiz ever since I was a little girl. The dynamics of acting, performing, the drama, dancing around and all that always fascinated me. I don’t think there is anything else I know how to do. So, I made my choices at a fairly young age. And while doing my bachelors, I knew it would have to be in media studies and film making.

Do you have plans of pursuing your studies and maybe shifting careers in the future?

Pursuing my studies, yes. I love studying. Changing careers, no. I cannot see a life without this. I know I will eventually get into directing though.

Amongst all the roles you’ve played, which one has been your favorite?

I recently did a movie called ‘Suntali’, where I play the character of Suntali. The movie hasn’t released yet. This role was different from the real me, it was a challenge. This one has to be my favorite.

People have criticized you for taking up roles that “didn’t suit you”, claiming that you should have passed on some of the movie offers. There must have been something that made you feel otherwise. Tell us about it.

Well, I think a lot of the talk just happens for no reason. I have actually had only 4 releases so far since 2011 (when I entered the cine industry) and I don’t think that I have taken up too many movie offers. People just assume that I have done every offer that came to me but that is just an assumption. I have tried to take up roles that show the versatile actor in me, and I have tried to do roles that pull me out of my comfort zone and make me someone else on screen. I have no regrets as of yet.

I HAVE TRIED TO DO ROLES THAT PULL ME OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE AND MAKE ME SOMEONE ELSE ON SCREEN

Whether it is in terms of sheer volume of appearances or delivering a great performance, you appear to be on top of your game. How does it feel to rule Kollywood?

It feels amazing to be loved and appreciated and talked about so frequently. It truly is a blessing. Honestly, I don’t think I rule this industry, but I do have a lot of respect for the industry and I want to work hard every day to bring the standards up a little by little.

How do you manage your time between different projects?

Like I said earlier, I only have had 4 releases yet, and I have around 6 that are in post production. When I am involved with a project, I completely immerse my heart and soul into that character and try to do total justice to it. Once that project is over, I snap out of the character and enter the next one I’m portraying. I like to stay busy. Work keeps me happy so I try to be involved in different projects without taking any breaks. So, that’s that!

What are the pros and cons of being such an enormous media personality?

The pros, you are loved, celebrated, looked up as a role model and people want to be like you. That is a great feeling. The cons, you lose your personal life, everything becomes public, you are watched, criticized and it makes you vulnerable and sensitive. It’s really important, I think, to stay grounded and you’ve got to keep your head straight.

Who is the person that has influenced you the most?

Marilyn Monroe. I love her courage, her strength and the power she showed in doing what she felt like doing.

As a person, what would you consider your strongest trait?

My tolerance and patience.

What is the biggest regret you wish you could amend?

Don’t have any. I think every experience be it good, or bad, is a lesson learnt and it helps to shape your life.

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done to you?

Oh god! Someone left me a blood letter at my gate. It’s creepy that he/she knows where I live!

MARILYN MONROE. I LOVE HER COURAGE, HER STRENGTH AND THE POWER SHE SHOWED IN DOING WHAT SHE FELT LIKE DOING.

What’s your one annoying habit?

I have anxiety and I think too much. So, when I have something bothering me, I become distant, and I keep talking about the same issue.

Tell us one thing about you that most people don’t know.

I sing.

When you meet someone for the first time, what do you usually notice and what impresses you?

Their sense of style and fashion, the confidence and the personali ty. Well dressed people impress me. There is a certain class that comes with that which I like.

One thing you can’t stand in a man.

Body Odor

Lays or Nepali Chips?

Nepali Chips

Sense of humor or intellect?

Sense of humor

Family time or night out?

Family time

The first thing you bought with your first earning?

Lots of junk food and chocolates and ice-cream. For the record, I was just 15 at the time.

WELL DRESSED PEOPLE IMPRESS ME. THERE IS A CERTAIN CLASS THAT COMES WITH THAT WHICH I LIKE

What would you splurge on?

Shoes!!

What is the most valuable thing you own right now?

I own the hearts of my #sweethearts. This feeling is priceless.

They say you should “love thy neighbor”, and trust us we’ve always tried. We’ve always wanted to fall hopelessly in

They say you should “love thy neighbor”, and trust us we’ve always tried. We’ve always wanted to fall hopelessly in love with the hot girl next door. But the thing is most of us were never lucky enough to hve one. And those who did, usually had a discerning father who also, coincidentally, owned a Tibetan Mastiff.

But sometimes dreams do come true… sort of. At least now you can imagine what sort of a girl you’d want prancing about in the house next door. Someone like Subeksha Khadka would be splendid.

If you could have a super power what would it be?

This is an insane power that I am asking for but I would be very happy if I could have the power which allowed me to heal people’s sorrow and misery with a magic stick or something. Spreading Love and Harmony to sum it up.

Did any of your neighbors ever stalk you or hit on you?

Strangely, yes. This happened a year back .There was this guy who used to drop letters at my place, saying he used to see me every day, liked what I wore and stuff like that. It was December then, and he had left a gift for me. It was a tiny Christmas tree, which was a pretty cute gesture. And then again after a few months I received another gift and a letter which I didn’t open. From then I have never heard from that person.

If we gave you Rs. 1crore and you had to spend it in a day, how would you do it?

That’s a lot of money. Well, I’d love to splurge on some things for myself and my family. Maybe a trip abroad? Also, I absolutely love children and I have been working with some orphaned kids who are like family to me now. They live in Bhaisipati and are looked after by a lady. I would be happy to provide them with anything useful from that money.

What is your dream job?

I have always dreamt of becoming a banker. That might sound boring, but yes, that’s always been my dream job and I look up to Miss Raveena Desraj Shrestha who is one of the leading female bankers in our country. I admire the way she is and her work.

What is your favorite food?

I loooveee Italian food and having a lot of Newari friends I get to treat myself with amazing Newari cuisines once in a while, and I enjoy that too.

Your opinion on commitment?

Whatever we choose to do in our life, we should do with full dedication and commitment. Be it work, be it friendship or a relationship. If there is no commitment it is pointless.

What is the strangest compliment you ever received?

You would make a great wife.

Funny, mysterious, strong and silent, good looking, intelligent. Rank in order.

Good Looking, Intelligent, Funny, mysterious, Strong, Silent

What are your turn offs?

Drinking so excessively that you lose control over yourself and start acting weird.

Shift into the realm of rebelliousness with sleek leather jackets, high booties, bold statement makeup designs and of course, fiercely fast motorcycles.

There isn’t much else that tickles our fancy as much as the sexy duo of a beautiful woman and an equally smoking hot crotch rocket. And we take it that goes the same for all men. However, it’s really sad that there aren’t many hot biker chicks that exist in reality. But we’re happy to sell you a fantasy world, especially when it’s as sexy as this.

Asmee Shrestha fits the bill to be the perfect biker chic, from the tight leather right down to the smoldering hot body. It’s a good way to start 2014 isn’t it? Of course, we question her as well on her choice of men and her opinion of a few other things.

TNM: What are the 5 essential characteristics necessary in a man?

AS: A good Sense of humor, respectful, honest, a good personality and good looks would put the cherry on top.

TNM: Which is more appealing in a man’s physique: being buff or being ripped?

AS: Personally, I think a ripped body is more appealing. However, when people take it too far, neither one is too appealing.

TNM: We absolutely adore women in bikes. What turns you on in a man?

AS: A strong confident man who isn’t afraid to take control is an alluring character.

TNM: What is the most overlooked social media etiquette?

AS: People seem to find it absolutely necessary to “check-in” almost every place they go to. Letting everyone know where you are, who you’re with and what you are doing is not really necessary. And then there is always the issue of sharing personal information that should remain personal.

TNM: In your opinion, where does Nepal stand in the fashion sector?

AS: Honestly, Nepal still has a very long way to go but with the increasing number of passionate and talented people in this industry, there is certainly a positive future. The key is to not give up and to try hard until we succeed.

As a kid, Parina Subba Limbu was above an average student, feisty and dominant by nature. But soon life took

As a kid, Parina Subba Limbu was above an average student, feisty and dominant by nature. But soon life took a different turn which led her onto a path that no one predicted. Things don’t always go as planned and so was the case in Parina’s life. At a tender age, when she was too young to make the right decisions, things started going downhill; she even fell in love with the wrong person and within a short time everything changed. The relationship took a toll on her and she had to suffer a great amount of physical and emotional trauma throughout. Add to it a concoction of social stigma on account of her caste, bad friends and more bad decisions and things started taking the wrong turn, pushing her to a life as a victim of various forms of violence to drug use.

Things kept deteriorating until 2006 when she attended a workshop on drug related addictions held at Radisson Hotel, by Lee Fitzgerald, who was working to spread the message of life without drugs and alcohol. During the workshop, Parina acted as a mediator between Lee and the other attendees who could not speak English. A question Lee asked would then change Parina’s life; “What do you want to do with your life?” Having been put on the spot, Parina’s first reaction was to convey her hopes of starting a day care center. The confident demeanor showcased by her must have made Lee think. They met a few days later to discuss further on Parina’s “plans”. Equipped with only a pen and paper to jot down and explain her ideas, Parina was taken aback when a wad of Rs.50000 was put in front of her by Lee and her friend Jake. The money was hers, to do whatever she wanted to do with it. She could use it to get back into drugs, or she could use it to somehow make things right. This time around, she made the right decision.

Through her experiences and close observations, Parina was no stranger to the alarming trend of female drug use that had been going unnoticed by the government and local communities. Righteously utilizing the monetary support provided by Lee- (Now the International Advisory member/Founder of Dristi Nepal) & Jake, Parina initiated the first “drop in center” (DIC) for women in substance abuse in Kathmandu named Dristi nepal. She recalls there were 14 women coming to Dristi & Now things have changed as they serve more than 300 women every year in Kathmandu & Dharan.

PARINA STANDS OUT AS AN INSPIRATIONAL FIGURE TO MANY FEMALE DRUG USERS IN NEPAL WHO HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO.

Dristi Nepal, a non-governmental, non-profit organization, initiated by recovering women, helps female drug users to get back to sobriety. Its mission is to create a stigma and discrimination free society for female drug users in Nepal, and prevent them from contracting HIV/AIDS. The persisting practice of gender inequality in Nepal is a problematic concern. A similar context can be applied in the case of substance abuse. Female drug users are still discriminated, in fact, before Dristi Nepal, there was no particular attention given to the issue at all. They had to face social discrimination, lack of support from family and friends and most of all, ignorance to their problems. Dristi Nepal aims to serve a caring environment for female drug users and their children by providing skill-based programs, advocating for the treatment rights of female ex-drug users and reintegrating them into the community while raising awareness about drugs and HIV & AIDS.

Her next endeavor is to start the ‘Happy Home Project’, which is something she has had planned for a long time. Happy Home will be a day care center with health care services and skill development trainings for women who are living with HIV, using drugs, spouses of male drug users, single mothers and other unprivileged women. The project will integrate training programs that will help them in enrolling into jobs and uplift their self esteem and independence so they can finally live as normal a life as possible. Happy Home will also be a production hub whose products will be sold in the domestic and international market, the profits of which will be shared equally between the makers of the product and Happy Home Project.

Today, Parina stands out as an inspirational figure to many female drug users in Nepal who have nowhere else to go. Parina and Dristi Nepal serve as a safe haven and a place close to heart to those who want to change their life, or are in need of the support that the society and their families do not give them. What started off from a single room in New Road, has now grown to a reputed organization working for a cause that had been left neglected. The continued support from Lee Fitzgerald and funds from UNODC has helped Dristi Nepal to expand the efforts to other cities of Nepal like Dharan. Apparently few individuals/ friends from abroad as well those who accepted & believed in her and the issues she was vying for also helped Dristi Nepal to sustain in different ways.

Being trapped in a position where many might have refrained to embark on such a journey, Parina boldly recalls her past which only seems to motivate her to make sure anyone who is in a similar position gets the support that they need. For having risen from the lowest of lows and using her experience to help prevent other women from suffering like she did, TNM salutes Parina Subba Limbu.

“Discrimination against women drug users is a serious issue, I know because I have gone through it myself. People need to understand that we (female drug users) have a problem and we need love, support and respect to get through it. Everyone has a story, and everyone’s story deserves a happy ending.”

Thank god for all the beautiful girls in the world. And he deserves a pat on the back for the work

Thank god for all the beautiful girls in the world. And he deserves a pat on the back for the work he did on Niti Shah. She’s easy on the eyes and a pleasure to be around. Of course, her shy facade belies her fun feisty nature and we couldn’t be happier. Nevertheless, she is grounded and still believes in the basic values of life like honesty, responsibility and good manners. We got a chance to catch up with the face that has left the city lovestruck… and we clicked a few photographs for you too. Man we love our job!

Which is the best pick up line you’ve ever heard?

– The best one I have ever heard is ‘Hello. I think you’re beautiful and though I may not be the best looking guy in here, but I’m the only one talking to you.” It’s simple yet classy, funny and confident.

Which one’s the worst?

– From the top of my head, the corniest of ‘em all: “Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?” And there was one that left me dumbfounded when he said “Action speaks louder than words”. I have no clue whether it was even a pick up line.

Would a pick up line work on you?

– Though I think pick up lines are somewhat flattering, personally, I think pick up lines work only as ice breakers. Pick-up lines ‘alone’ sound so fake, clichéd and staged. A good pick up line followed by an interesting conversation would be something that might work for me.

Describe an exceptionally well dressed man.

– Clothes that fit perfectly with appropriate hues and well polished shoes to match. With a little confidence thrown into the mix, this should make the man look sharp. Overall, the attire should make a statement not put on a show.

Tell us something that most people might not know about you.

– Most people take me for a shy girl. I’m not. I may seem reserved at first but once you get to know me… I’m actually quite the opposite.

You have a face of an angel and we’re head over heels for you, but we’re hoping there’s a more devilish side to you. Is there a different spirit behind that innocent face?

– To be honest, I think everyone has a different spirit and a devilish side to them and I am no exception. That side of me however, I’ll keep to myself for the moment.

Would you say you’re a good cook, or do you have a Pizza Hut on speed dial?

– I’m definitely not a good cook YET. I love home cooked meals and am working on my culinary skills.

What stupid things do men do?

– I won’t go as far as putting all men under the same umbrella, but not being able to handle their drinks (and consequently swearing like a sailor) and driving under the influence just top the list. I am a huge supporter of Ma.Pa.Se by the way.

Where would you say is your dream holiday destination?

– It would definitely be Bora Bora in the Pacific Ocean. It would definitely be a place for a serine vacation with its tropical climate and crystal clear waters; a place with a romantic setting for those who need some time away.

A friendly, positive and warm personality goes a long way. Being funny and having a sexy smile can’t hurt either.

What are your major turn ons and turn offs?

– A friendly, positive and warm personality goes a long way. Being funny and having a sexy smile can’t hurt either. Also, honesty and class is a definite turn on.

However, I can’t stand a rude fellow who can’t stop swearing and is full of himself. Body odor is another thing that needs to be kept in check.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

– Hopefully, successful in a career that I opt to undertake.

If you were to get a tattoo (if you don’t already have one), where would you get it and what would it be of?

– It would definitely be of ‘Ganesh’. Not particularly due to religious reasons but because it holds a sentimental value to me and the concept I have in mind is beautiful. However, I am still contemplating on where I should get it.

Which is worse? A guy that swears a lot or a guy that chews his food with his mouth open (in the really annoying way)?

– A guy who swears a lot. A dirty mouth could be a sign of bad manners and is something that is screams disrespect.

Are you a Dog Person or a cat person?

– Definitely a dog person.

After winning the Miss Nepal title in 2010 at the age of 19, the adorable Sadichha Shrestha has become a face we have all come to love. Her girl-next-door look perfectly complimented her good-girl persona. In the last few years, Sadichha has left her slightly chubby appearance in the past and slowly but surely turned into a more mature and sexier lady. Here’s a little insight on how Sadichha Shrestha shed her ‘baby-fat’ and adopted a healthier and fit life style.

TNM: Since your entry into the mass media after Miss Nepal, how has your perception on fitness and its importance in your lifestyle and career been?

SS: Well, once you are in the media, it’s not just your friends and family that comment or compliment about the way you look. Everyone’s got their opinion, even people who don’t know you personally at all have something to say. Staying fit in the media career I think has become a necessity. It was always important for me, but after Miss Nepal I think I have taken it more seriously and have been more committed.

TNM: Who do you consider as a fit celebrity in Nepal and Internationally?

SS: I think Rajesh Hamal is a fit actor. So is Ruby Rana, the first Miss Nepal. She is a mother of two and she looks amazing!

TNM: Have you ever had a struggle with working out?

SS: I love working out. Be in at the gym or home, I love the aftermath of a good workout. So it has never been a struggle as such, but taking time out during busy days is a challenge. However, I try to fit in an hour or half of exercise time during those days as well.

TNM: What’s your perception of a fit woman?

SS: A fit woman doesn’t necessarily have to be skinny. I think it is a wrong concept that people have. A fit person, in my opinion, is someone with stamina and who is comfortable in her own skin. Fitness cannot be defined as skinny or curvy.

TNM: Did people’s comments about your fitness change after you won Miss Nepal?

SS: After Miss Nepal, I had a lot of things to work on. I hit the gym regularly and did yoga. So that led to some changes in my lifestyle. Soon, people started saying I lost my baby fat.

TNM: What made you decide on making the fitness transformation? When?

SS: I was never uncomfortable with my body even before Miss Nepal. So, I didn’t get into fitness with the thought that I need to please other people and be skinny. However, as you grow up, you learn the importance of being fit, not just to look good. Even in order to survive a long day and a busy schedule you need stamina. So working out and a proper diet gave that to me, so I thought it was a good idea to adopt a fit lifestyle.

TNM: What were the changes that you brought into your daily routine? What did you do to keep yourself motivated?

SS: I started working out regularly and started yoga classes. Cut down on the sweets and the temptation. For motivation, I had tons of picture saved with motivational quotes and my target goals. It was surprisingly uplifting.

TNM: For some cutting down on the diet is difficult, while for others the workouts take a toll. Where do you fall in this category?

SS: I love working out, some days I am in the gym for hours and love every minute of it. But when it comes to food I may not be as committed. I love eating! I am a vegetarian and have a sweet tooth. I love desserts. So, it’s difficult keeping it out of my meal, so I have more cheat days than advised

TNM: Have you reached the goal that you set for yourself yet?

SS: No, I haven’t. I think you should always set high goals and keep pushing your limits. So, I haven’t yet achieved the goal I have set in my mind. But mark my words, a few more months and you will see a different me!

TNM: What does your current fitness routine and diet program consist of?

SS: I have a set routine at the gym where I go 6 days a week. And I make sure I alter the workouts that I do. I also try to replace my regular food with healthier choices by opting for brown bread over white and substituting fried food with baked ones. I also drink plenty of water and have my dinner before 7.

TNM: You are a naturally curvy lady, how difficult was it to get into shape?

SS: Well, I am a curvy person thanks to my mom and Grandma! Haha.

The difficulties for me were to find and squeeze in the time during the busy schedules. And yes, to keep my hands off desserts!
