Getting Red Hot For The Summer
The generic intro to anything that’s summer: Summer is finally here! I’m not going to be pretentious and say that we are stuffing all your jackets away at the back of the closet because c’mon, it’s common sense. We’re all starting to sweat our butts off and things are getting warmer by the day. But hey, summer’s not so bad.
“SO STICK OUT FROM THE CROWD AND GO WITH RED. OR ANY OTHER COLOR.”
I’ve always been a winter guy. I love layering up and wearing dark colors and vacuum packing myself with a thick and heavy blanket. And then I just pop a foot out to regulate the temperature and hey, I’m going off the topic now. But speaking of foot, ever wonder what shoes you should wear for the summer? I do too.
So, like any original writer, I did an extensive research online for the best summer shoes. I looked up places like GQ, Esquire, Gentleman’s Gazette, you know, the usual sites any man would go to for their “sartorial inquiries”. And I did get a list for shoes and suggestion on how to wear them and all. For a while, I thought that they were great. But it did not take me long to realize one tiny factor that would have a snowball effect. We’re in Nepal. I guess being a developing economy has it’s own stylistic drawbacks.
Now, these sites often recommend you to go with a leather shoe. Penny loafers, mocs, boats, oxfords, fancy leather sneakers, the usual “staples” every man should own and what not. And the price… dear lord, the price! For the common man, wearing your kidney’s worth of leather on your foot is not really feasible. And with Dustmandu going at full swing, it’s a real *female-dog* to keep them clean. So, as per my opinion, the best way to go is canvas.
The 1960’s was a great time. Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963, and the Beatles released the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band 4 years later. And in between that time frame, in ‘66, the shoe brand Vans was introduced. Their first shoe was the deck show, a.k.a. #44, a.k.a Authentic, and it was an instant success, much like the two great things mentioned in the previous sentence. And like those two great things, these shoes have maintained their charm and will continue to do so. In my opinion they are the best shoes for summer for their affordability, range of colors, breathability, versatility, durability, and availability.
Now, the color of the season, like last time, is going to be white. It’s cool if you want to go with white. It’s a dope color and versatile as the f word. But the problem is, everyone will wear it. So stick out from the crowd and go with red. Or any other color. You can get them in blue, yellow, pink, teal, lavender, you get the idea. The point is, it’s a great shoe and will fetch you more compliments than the double monk straps you bought after watching an Alpha M video.
Also, yes, imitation is the highest form of flattery, but not in this case. Be weary of knock offs and “high copies”. You will not get your money’s worth. So go for the authentic Authentic. You can get them from the Vans showrooms, or online. I highly recommend sudrz.com (they’re not sponsoring this I swear) because they have genuine things in their catalogue and will deliver it to you in a span of 3 hours. Tried and tested.
