On taking care of your fingernails
If you happen to be a guy who’s never given your fingernails a second thought, you’re probably not alone. Many men think it’s really emasculating to take care of their nails. They may be right in their own perspectives, but let me tell you this, there’s a good chance that the many people who have dealt with you frequently, have definitely taken note of your nasty, gnarly nails. If you glanced down at your paws with a pinch of guilt, checkout the few simple guidelines listed below.

Clean your nails
You may be clean and you may smell nice, but if you have the crud-filled nails, all your efforts are for naught. Your nails don’t need to be buffed or French manicured all they require is to be clean. Start by doing the thing you have been doing all your life, but just more frequently – wash your hands. Use a lot of soap and warm water, and do the best you can to clean any dirt from under your nails. Men’s nails are thicker and denser than women’s nails, and washing them will help soften them a bit before you dig into clipping them.
Use Clippers for Nail Care
Next, use a large nail clipper with a file to remove any remaining dirt or debris from under your nails. Be careful not to scrape the sensitive skin underneath them too hard, and likewise be careful not to carve up the underside of the nail either. Next, use the clippers to cut your nails short, so that they’re a couple of millimetres below the end of your fingertips. Be sure to round out the top of the nail as best you can, so as not to leave them prone to snagging or breaking. How short you go is clearly a personal preference.
Care for Cuticles under Nails
Your cuticle is the thin ridge at the base of your nail that’s there to protect the nail matrix, where new nail cells are generated. The only thing you need to do with your cuticles, is don’t cut them. To most guys, the idea of cutting your cuticles has probably never crossed your mind, so then, just carry on. Finally, use your clippers to remove any hangnails or other dead skin, which can tear and lead to bigger hangnails if left unattended. And, while the task might be a little gruesome the first time around, you should take a pass at your toenails, too.
How to avoid biting nails?
This might not apply to everyone, but there are a lot of people who have the habit of biting their nails. It’s a nasty habit and people should stop. It is found that men have a tendency to chop their nails off, with their teeth, more than the females. And if you have the same habit and want to get rid of it, follow the instruction given below.
- Trim your nails. Clip your nails short enough so you will not be able to bite them. While trimming your nails, make sure you trim them even.
- Dip the tips of your nails in vinegar. You can also dip the tips in pepper. The bitter or hot taste will deter you from biting your nails.
- Chew gum or suck on mints whenever you have the urge to bite your nails. Keeping your mouth busy will make you less likely to want to chew on your nails.
