As morbid as it may be, there’s a certain beauty in death. As the leaves begin to dry up and descend unto earth, colder days have been welcomed in. Fall is here and is setting up to usher in the winter. Apart from seeing Instagram-famous people flood the feed with pumpkin spiced lattes, this season is all about layering. From stomping woodlands to being a staple in a man’s wardrobe, Timberland has come up with a whole new catalogue of apparel for the gent who wants ruggedness with a dash of sophistication. So we took this opportunity and paired them up with items from The Wall over at Civil Mall, and got Mr. Shekhar Subedi to show us how it’s done.

URBAN LUMBERJACK

When you base an outfit on the iconic boot, it’s hard to not go for the lumberjack look which is highly fall appropriate. Pair the iconic boots with modern straightfit jeans. Fit your tops with a plain t-shirt under a flannel shirt and throw in a down vest. Play with your colors to make the layers pop and you’re set to go out stomping.

INTO THE WILD

The fall season is the perfect time to go hiking around the valley. For that, you might want a good pair of hiking boots. Wear a modern pair of cargoes that’s been slimmed down, and keep warm with a functional jacket. This one is water proof as well.

SCALING THE CONCRETE JUNGLE

Timberland’s new collection consists of athletic shoes with FlyRoam that allows you superior mobility. Mobility means possibilities. Wear it with a pair of joggers, a long line tee, and a ribbed hoodie for added texture. Layer not just in lengths, but in materials as well.

American st yle is probably the most influential among all that’s out there, and since we’re talking Americana, we can’t leave out Levi’s Strauss & Co. They invented the jeans back in 1873 which has been a staple ever since. They do it the best and none has come to do it any better. But they don’t just do jeans these days. They work with other fabrics as well, and the qualit y of these are more than just wor th it for the price.

Ps: these items were so comfor table that I cried when I had to return them.

LUMBERSEXUAL

Red flannels have a bad rep for being the “shirt of the year” but hey, they look hella good. If you’re still worried, fret not; these shirts are reversible. Plus, the pearl tab buttons make the whole process of dressing so much more easier.

-Reversible Flannel Shirt

-Tapered Fit Jeans

RACING TO A CAFÉ

I love leather jackets but I feel that it’s still a bit warm for it. So the next best option is the denim jacket, which is great in it’s own regard as well. If you’re going to pull off the denim on denim look, just make sure that the jacket and the pants are of different shades.

-Distressed Denim Jacket

-Super Skinny Jeans

-Vintage Logo T Shirt

CONTEMPORARY MINIMALISM

It just seems that people these days are obsessed with the whole concept of “less is more”. One can’t blame them however. You really don’t need prints to look good, just good clothes. If you insist on that pop, make sure it’s a small accessory like the watch here.

-Mandarin Button Up in Pink

-Grey Jumper

-Super Skinny Jeans in Black

FOR A DAY OUT

T Shirts are probably one of the most important inventions from mankind. Hence, there’s no reason why you should not wear one. Layer it up with a denim shirt since the weather these days tend to be cold and you’re set to hit it up with your boys.

Some may wear a suit, some may go with a Daura Suruwal, some may not care about dressing up at all. Regardless of it all, it is ethical to set an image of yourself among your cousins. Make yourself the center of the aunties’ gossips with this festive collection from Fabindia. Kurtas are just about the most comfortable thing a man can wear that does not look sloppy. And who knows, you might chip in extra Dakshina for looking so damn handsome.

SAY IT WITH PATTERNS

You don’t have to put much effort while wearing Kurtas. Just pick a pattern you like and wear it proudly.

ON WEDNESDAYS WE WEAR PINK

Not the manliest of movie quotes, but it is manly to wear pink. Don’t be shy.

FOR THE NIGHT IS DARK AND FULL OF STYLE

General rule of thumb: light for day, dark for night. This dark patterned Kurta could not be any more perfect for night time parties.

EFFORT? WHAT’S THAT?

Pardon me for repeating, but Kurtas are effortless to pull off. Just be careful about the fit, and throw in a Nehru Jacket. Weather forecast: A heavy rain of compliments.

Bay windows are generally a small window in the wall niche or large window with a pleasant view. Adding a window bench is a great way to add charm to your home and a nice place tor solitude and relaxation.
Windows are typically thought of as just something that a house has for ventilation, which goes unnoticed in our everyday lives. However, with a little bit of creativity, you can turn your window sill into a fashionable yet functional piece of furniture with the help of some simple decoration ideas provided that the ledge is wide enough to accommodate a seat, hence transforming it into your favorite spot in your home.

Not only can you turn the windowsill area into a comfortable sofa-type seat, you can even add additional utility by having a storage space underneath it. You can add drawers that make great storage for special-occasion dinnerware or those bulky items you do not use every day. You can even use it as a toy chest for children. This idea makes the most out of narrow spaces hence it is functionally and esthetically a great concept to include in a space as such.
It will definitely turn out to be the dreamy seating area you have been meaning to spend your leisure time in. Here are some photo examples of custom window sill cushioned seats for your inspiration: These kind of distinct areas encourage family members to mix and mingle while multitasking. Once overlooked as empty space, a wall-hugging window banquette springs to life as a lengthy lounge area.
If the niche is deeper than the standard bay windows it can serve the purpose of a day-bed beneath the window. Rather than forfeiting square footage with a traditional twin-size bed, a sun-loving window seat can serve as guest beds and extra seating as well. Not to forget the plentiful storage underneath which can serve as roomy built-in drawers to store just about anything which stays within easy reach. Dressing the bay window mats with plush pillows makes it appear more inviting.

Even when space is limited, niches can capitalize on style. Make the area as inviting as it is functional by hanging artwork and accessorizing with pretty, plush fabrics. Boost your window seat’s style quotient with an attentiongrabbing cushion pattern and colorful pillows. Because built-in window seats are often white, bold accessories add contrast and excitement.

Serving as a multipurpose extension: this stay-awhile work space, cabinets linked by a low set of drawers span an office window, providing a sunny seat to read, work, or play. Also, by connecting the desk, window seat, and storage centers, the small setup is perfect for multitasking.

Never underestimate the power of a savvy space; it could just turn out to be a great way to optimize a spacious window setup with a seat that marries style and function.

A year ago, I purchased one of those Anello backpacks in navy and cream colorway. I loved it with all my heart because it’s one of the first things I got for myself with my first salary. It was a back-to-school kind of a deal for me and I didn’t want to haul around my stuff in one of those Swiss Army backpacks that frey at the shoulders a bit too quickly. (IMO, they look hella ugly too.) This was the time when Accessories Nepal did not have a strong Instagram game as they do now so a lot of people didn’t know about these Anello bags. I thought it looked great, did my research, found out that it’s a Japanese brand favored religiously by pregnant Japanese women, thought it was spacious, and made the plunge of Rs. 1900. (I bet they’re cheaper now.)
After a month or two of wear and fetching a butt load of compliments, I realized it wasn’t really authentic, just one of those “high copy” ones. But more than that, I saw a girl carrying the same backpack as I did. Now, yes I tend to be a little bit extra at times, but… How dare she!? There can be only one! And that one is ME!

Sigh…

And a day later, I saw another one with a camo colorway. The next day, a red one. Then a black one. It was within a week that these Anello backpacks were everywhere. In my school, in the alley, in the bus, and in my dreams, haunting with the mocking monotone of “We rule you. You are like everyone. We rule you. You are like everyone. We rule you. You are like everyone.”

I woke up in a pool of sweat. I looked in the mirror and saw my face morph into just a sheet of flat skin with no features. I was losing my identity. I was becoming like everyone.

After some time, I calmed down. I sat down, and I asked myself, is shampoo a body wash for dogs? Or is it the other way around? Do we even have body wash for dogs?

Also, what is so wrong about being like everyone?

Now, I’m someone who likes to have, or at least I like to think so, that I have a unique sense of style. But then again, the idea of being unique is hypocritical because it’s influenced by a lot of people on Instagram, Pinterest, and movies. It is influenced by things that already exist. That’s when the notion of being unique loses its meaning. In addition to that, being a student of literature, I have come to know that life itself is an imitation of events that have already take place. For instance, so many things we do in our daily lives, like the way we talk, are the unconscious act of replicating a scene we saw in a movie. That is kind of why we like to pretend out life is a movie, like there’s a camera following us and filing the trivial things that we do, so we make it as cinematic as we in pure pretence, regardless of it being just in our heads.

Coming back to topic, while I was doing a bit of research, I came across various blogs that give 10 or so points on why you should not follow fashion trends. They say stuff like trends don’t last, fashion is temporary, it is mass produced, and that the sun rises from the east. Well I have news for you Queen Ogbaje, Blogger and Freelance Writer for Huffington Post, I know all of that. Everyone knows that.

What I would like to draw the attention towards is the one point that every article has in common: It robs you from your identity. They argue how trendy clothes makes you look like everyone and you don’t have your own uniqueness. Then they often end with the point: wear things you’re comfortable in. Well, what if you’re comfortable in something that’s in trend? I mean, oversized hoodies are in trend right now and they’re mighty comfy. That’s a real fix ain’t it?

Let’s get away from this and divert to a memory of ours. You must remember having to put on a uniform when you went to school. Your shirt had to be a specific shade of white or blue, the trousers had to be pleated, the socks had to be grey, shoes black with laces, and your ties had to reach your belt and not past it. Everyone had to wear the same thing. The reason why schools have uniforms is because the students look smart in them. They look good in them. So, everyone was made to wear them. Same goes for the army and the whole purpose of high profile cocktail parties and red carpet events having a dress code; to ensure that you look. You don’t complain about looking like everyone then now, do you?

See, fashion houses are businesses. Furthermore, brands like H&M, Zara, Asos, Saint Laurent, and Kanye West are good businesses and they know what’s good for their business. The majority of the items in the collections they bring out are brought out because they look good on the general population and appeal to a lot. Then, people wear them, look good on them, more people see them, think they’ll look good wearing them, and eventually the number of people wearing them multiplies exponentially. That’s how the Stan Smiths came to be popular, a trend, and eventually a wardrobe staple. May I also add that such blogs that I mentioned recommend investing on staples, something everyone wears. So… yeah…

To wrap this up, just do whatever you want. Yes, people do judge you on the clothes you wear, but you have the liberty to do whatever you want. It’s okay if you follow the streetwear scene, the urban dandy look, or just the look-like-a-homeless-personfor-$1000 Yeezy trend, or none at all. It is completely okay. As long as you’re comfortable with what you wear and don’t mind the opinions of others, it is perfectly and completely okay. You do you, fam.

Globalization is taking over the world, it’s the biggest thing around. That’s all you practically hear nowadays. Sure, that is all well and true, but that does not necessarily mean you need to be obsessed with the notion. There are many that prefer to embrace the capabilities of local production and capitalize on domestic resources. One such entity is Dochaa Shoes, an up and coming brand that has come into the limelight via their uniquely designed shoes that reflect Nepal’s culture and soul. We had a chance to sit down and chat with the three co-founders of Dochaa, Amuda Mishra, Watsal Rajbhandari, Dikesh Prajapati about their establishment. Incorporating Nepali art into the designs in their shoes, they are offering the best quality and unique print and they stand by their motto to ‘Embody Your Identity’. You can get your Dochaas at The Local Project Nepal situated in Evoke Café and Bistro, Jhamsikhel or order it online and have it delivered.
Here are the excerpts of our conversation.

TNM: WHAT INITIATED THE IDEA OF DOCHAA?

D: We all come from different backgrounds so we weren’t familiar with each other right at first. In fact, when we first met it was through the relief campaign we were volunteering in together; it was for an organization called Ujyalo Foundation. We were just hanging out one evening and were talking about the underappreciated Nepali artists and art.
Conversations were flowing and we were coming up with the appropriate ways that could reflect these talents in some way or a way we could endorse them. Coincidentally, all three of us were shoe fanatics and that instigated the idea of incorporating shoes and Nepali culture together.
The concept just seemed to click. We started investing a lot of our time for the required research to go forward to transform that idea into a venture. We had to come up with the name as well so we decided on Dochaa which simply means shoes in Sherpa language.
If the comfort of the shoes and the authentic Nepali designs could be embedded together we could be able to contribute towards the art sector in Nepal. That’s the story of how Dochaa started.

TNM: LIKE ANY OTHER BUSINESS, DOCHAA MAY HAVE HAD TO FACE SOME CHALLENGES ALONG THE WAY. WHAT WERE THEY AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME IT?

D: The production process can be a hassle, the market is very volatile and the limited variety of raw materials available is also very troublesome in case of the fabrics required for making shoes. Because of that we also had to halt the production for a little while, we started again when conditions were ideal. That was a big challenge. Also, we didn’t have any prior experience in this field, we were not related to this industry so we had to take a lot of time learning about what goes into doing what we are doing.

TNM: WHAT GOES INTO MAKING A PAIR OF DOCHAA SHOES? TELL US YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?

D: First, we start with extensive research, while being sensitive towards what designs can go in the shoes because we need to be careful to not include designs that can be offensive in any way to place in the shoes. After examining that, we decide on a certain design, digitalize it, brainstorm and continuously improvise till we finalize the design.
We have been focusing more on the social media marketing, other than that we have not used other platforms for marketing. The basic idea is to help people understand that we have this brand and this represents something personal. Our brand reflects the core value of embodying our identities through the integration of Nepali culture.

TNM: WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE LIKE AFTER FIRST LAUNCHING DOCHAA IN THE MARKET? DID IT MATCH YOUR EXPECTATIONS?

D: The response has been overwhelming, to say the least. We were excited about how the public would react because we personally liked how the final product looked like. Till now the response has been positive. But we are still looking into aspects that we can improve on. This has been the first step for us and it has been a learning process. People were slightly skeptical about the price. I think it is also a mindset revolution that we are trying to bring by showing that Nepali products can be qualitative and can live up to a standard. We also want to create a brand value which can be relatable to other Nepali brands as well. It is not as simple as making a pair of shoes; it takes a lot of research, resources and patience to produce a pair of Dochaa Shoes. Nepali products have been famous in the international market as well but we want to meet that level in the fabric industry as well.

TNM: WHAT DOES DOCHAA REPRESENT?

D: If you tear apart a Dochaa it bleeds our culture, the work of artists that have remained unnoticed from different corners of our country. We want to create a brand value which can be relatable to other Nepali brands as well. It is not just buying a shoe, it takes a lot of research, resources and patience to produce a pair of Dochaa. Nepali products have been famous in the international market as well but we want to meet that level in the fabric industry as well. For a lot of people who are in different parts of Nepal, we, the whole Dochaa family, hope that we can represent the essence of all their cultures, arts, colors, and prints through Dochaa. Embodying our identity does not just mean referencing our history. Yes, it is there and will always be a subject of pride but we need to do it in the present as well. It may not go down in history but people who appreciate our culture will appreciate Dochaa and that is enough for us right now. These are small steps that help us grow as an economy.

We men are notorious for getting our hair done for just Rs. 60. A handful push it up to Rs.100

We men are notorious for getting our hair done for just Rs. 60. A handful push it up to Rs.100 but only because a taming of the beard is included in it. The other thing we’re notorious for is that we tend to complain about the cut not being that good. Then again, we suck it up because we paid the bare minimum for it. We leave it to being us not being able to talk to the barber correctly. And then we just move on with our lives unsatisfied and even insecure.

This is where the Lakme Salon comes in. Recently opened as a flagship parlor at Labim Mall, Lalitpur, Lakme has been grooming men and women who want the finest. Employing not only their own exceptional products but also hairstylists who should be termed as artisans, Lakme is pretty much your one stop solution to all of your hair tantrums.

Now, we would not recommend a place to our faithful readers just like that. We would never do that. That is why we got two drastically different people with two drastically different hairstyles to see what can be done with their mane. We were more than impressed with the results.

Our first model is Solar Karki. He has the kind of hair every man would be jealous of. Long, straight, bouncy, and oh-so thick. When he came in, his hair was long on the top and shorter on the sides. For him, the look we were going for was a more of a rockabilly slick back. Our stylist started of by sectioning the hair in three, separating the top part and either the sides. Going in with a buzzer with a number 3 clip, the sides were cropped short. Then, to make everything clean, a number 1 was used. For the top, we needed the length, so just the tips were trimmed to eliminate split ends. Then, the model was sent for a wash.

Using cold water, the hair was washed with Lakmé’s all purpose shampoo and the blown dry. While blowing dry, the hair was combed backwards and upwards to give it some volume. A roller brush was used to do this. With the desired volume, a high sheen wax was applied and let to sit. Just to make everything spot on (as if it wasn’t already) a trimmer with no guard was used to clean up the strands that may have gone astray.

Now, Solar has a very chiseled jaw. To emphasize it, we could have gone with a clean shave but the stylist suggested that we should just clean up the neck with a trimmer so that the masculinity of the facial hair stays intact. Masculinity is something that is always welcome, and let this be a prime example for one having to always listen to their stylist. They know their stuff. This was speck ally evident when the towel was taken off Solar and he looked ready to dazzle the entire galaxy with his fresh cut and exquisitely define jawline.

The next model, me, has the sort of hair one would juxtapose with pubic hair. With a thinning top and embarrassingly rough texture, I came into the salon eager for an upgrade. The stylist took one look at me and you could see in his reaction that a challenge was before him. But he was as cool as a cucumber and showed me to the chair. (This would be a good time to point out that the chairs here are the comfiest.)

My hair being dry, the stylist did not have to bother with clips to partition my hair. Also, it not being as long as Solar’s, we went for a short side part. Hence, trimmer with a number 3 was used to crop the sides and back. Then, for the top, the stylist pointed out a fallacy. My hair being thin, I thought I could cover up with long hair. But what that apparently does is it makes the hair heavy, making it lay out in different manners, thus revealing various bald areas. So we went on to trim it down. For this, a pair of scissors were used. When the length was appropriate enough, the stylist went at it at an angle of 45 degrees to give it some texture. Similar to Solar’s, my hair was washed with cold water and shampooed with the same product. Then, it was blown dry and combed upwards with a roller brush. I was initially against it, but under his better judgment, we put down a line on the left side so that a sharper side part could be made. My concern was having to maintain it but he bypassed it as unnecessary whining. This is a decision I do not regret and would like to reinforce the previous statement: always listen to your stylist. Even more so when he’s from Lakme.

After a application of low shine wax, I felt like a proper man rather than a boy. I could not thank Lakme enough for making me fit enough to pose beside a proper model and actually put my hand on his shoulder and establish myself as the alpha.

Orange is the new black. Pink is the new black. Purple is the new black. Green, blue, yellow, magenta, teal, lavender, seafoam, whatever. The deal is, we men have made black our go to color. Yes, black is one of those colors that is bold yet manages to be discreet. However, a black wardrobe, no matter how minimalistic or industrial looking it may be, is monotonous. One will not be able to tell what different or unique item you’re wearing from afar and in today’s world, intimate and close quarters are on the rather rare side.

SNEAKING IN

Keep your monochrome tops and legs but swap your shoes for this epic red Louis Vuitton sneaks. All it takes is one small step for you in your red sneakers to make a huge step for your style. Besides, it’ll be nice for you to stand out from “high copy” white Stan Smiths and Superstars everyone seems to sport these days. Don’t get us wrong, white shoes are dope. But everyone wears them. Everyone does not wear red shoes. You do. Don’t be everyone.

Louis Vuitton sneakers Zara chinos Zara button down Bangbang vintage sweatshirt.

BOMBS AWAY

You should already be having a pair of denim and a white shirt, tshirt or a sweatshirt. Put those together with a nice pair of brown brogues and this red bomber. Now, make sure that your pants are fitting and tapered, that’s the number one rule of wearing dressy shoes with jeans. Don’t worry about the bomber being red if you’re not a fan of red, you have the liberty of choice. Just don’t make it black or navy, you want to stand out remember?

Zara Brogue Wingtips Pull&Bear Denim Pants Sihan Gao Pullover Bobby Kim Bomber Jacket.

SUMMER NOSTALGIA

Color does not just mean colors. You can voice your style with patterns as well. This nice printed long-hem tshirt reminds us about summer and if you pair it up with a biker leather jacket from Zara, you’re sure to be looking cool while staying warm. For the footwear, we chose these brogued chelsea boots that’s sure to grab you some compliments. Just don’t stuff your pants in them.

Avash Nirola is the Senior Manager at Chaudhary Group Leadership Centre(CGLC). He works in developing the leadership potentials within and outside the company. He is involved in various social and cultural causes and is a musician as well. He is also a certified coaching professional.
Style is often a reflection of your attitude and personality, which is why there is so much more that goes into it than just the clothes and accessories you wear. What you say, how you behave; every tiny detail adds up to create a personality and style. The heads a well-dressed man turns is a mere bonus to the confidence it inspires in him. Keeping that in mind, we present you Avash Nirola. A man who reflects the class and charisma his attire represents unlike many others who just seem to use it as a façade; a rarefind in today’s age. An air of sophistication, proper manners and a charismatic personality are all part of the mystique. Being a true gent is truly a combination of many things and that’s what this ultimate gentleman is all about.

Avash Nirola is the Senior Manager at Chaudhary Group Leadership Centre(CGLC). He works in developing the leadership potentials within and outside the company. He is involved in various social and cultural causes and is a musician as well. He is also a certified coaching professional.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

Well, that is a tough one. I live by certain values that guide me through life. I am firm believer of karma. I try to seek out the good in everything and everyone. I also believe that the purpose of our lives is to continuously learn and grow. I try to learn one new thing everyday. Be it a new word or a new concept or even guitar chords to a new song. I also value relationships a lot and have a tendency to make friends quickly. I have no hidden agendas for making friends and nothing makes me happier than spending time with my family and friends. Another thing that makes me happy is making a difference in people’s lives.

2. What sort of role does fashion play in your life?

Fashion is more than just wearing designer or clothes that are in vogue; it is a lifestyle. It encompasses much more than just what you wear. Your behavior and attitude are also a part of fashion. You might be wearing a Versace suit, but if you can’t back it up with other elements of your personality like your body language, and common etiquettes, it really doesn’t make sense.

3. How would you describe your sense of style?

I am very open when it comes to style and I don’t adhere to any particular style image. It depends on the season and occasion. More importantly, I think style is about your attitude.

4. What is your go to article of clothing in your wardrobe?

Something that you would be ok wearing everyday if you had to. Something that I am ok to wear everyday are my jeans and t-shirt. Of course in winters you have to add layers to that. But at work, I always dress formally.

5. In your opinion, what is the most important part of being well-dressed?

The most important thing is how you present yourself as a brand. It’s similar to how products in the market try to stand out through their packaging and display. A well-dressed man is a well-noticed man. It helps create a packaging of your brand and helps you stand out from the rest.

6. What is the difference between a welldressed man and an average dressed man?

As mentioned, the fact that you will stand out helps a lot in both your personal and professional lives. A well-dressed man has a persona that people will remember and want to be associated with. You will be able to foster relationships quicker and in the long run be able to leverage on that.

7. Do you have a favorite brand?

None as such. I go for various brands depending on some specific qualities I am looking for. Jack & Jones make great vintage t-shirts, Levi’s makes great jeans, Zara has a good collection of parkas and other outerwear and Woods has great and comfortable shoes.

8. Is there anyone who you look to as inspiration or do you cook up your own styling?

Most times I like doing my own styling. I do not have any particular fashion inspiration however, I do flip through my share of magazines like GQ, Esquire and TNM to get a sense of where the trend is heading. (speaking like a man of good taste)

9. Do you own any heirlooms that hold a special place in your heart?

I have a 1967 Omega Seamaster that my Grandfather handed to my father and eventually has come to me.

YOUR OUTER APPEARANCE IS IMPORTANT. IT IS NOT EVERYTHING, BUT IT IS IMPORTANT. BE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN DON’T BLANDLY COPY WHAT OTHERS LOOK GOOD IN.

10. What is the first thing you want people to notice about you?

I do not know if I would want them to notice but everyone notices my mustache. However, I would want people to notice more than what I am on the outside because yes, first impressions are always important but how someone is on the inside is equally important too.

11. Grooming is a very important aspect, even more so for someone with a moustache as magnificent as yours. Tell us about your grooming habits and what it takes to keep the ‘stache in ship-shape.

Haha, this moustache gets a fair bit of attention. I spend about 10 minutes a day combing my ‘stache to give it shape and regular visits to the barber is a must for keeping it groomed. Facial hair has a way of going crazy in all direction if you don’t pay attention to it. I also apply wax to give it shape.
12. Any style/grooming/fashion tips that you would have for us?
Your outer appearance is important. It is not everything, but it is important. Be comfortable in your own skin don’t blandly copy what others look good in. Figure out your own sense of style and pay attention to details. Your wallets, watches, cuff links, and other accessories are very important but often overlooked.
Get a good haircut. A haircut defines your look. You can wear the sharpest suit but without a sharp haircut it is incomplete. All your efforts of dressing well and looking sharp will not carry well if your body language is not right. Focus on your overall body language as well.

LOCATION: TONE MUSIC STORE

PHOTOS: PRITAM CHETTRI

MAKE UP: SWASTIKA HAIR AND MAKEUP STUDIO

The melodies of classic love songs and Bollywood magic have enraptured the masses for generations. Although its popularity might have wavered from time to time, with modern music taking the limelight, there is no denying the classics have a way of outshining the competition when put up to the task.

We stumbled across Trishala’s Facebook page a long time ago and were spell bound by her talents. Usually, at this point, we drone on and on about how stunningly beautiful she was and how we had to sit down for a bit (not saying that that didn’t happen); but it was her singing voice that left us spellbound. Her renditions of classing Nepali and Hindi songs are captivating, to say the least, and we just couldn’t get enough of her.

Add to it the fact that she is the cutest possible human being on the face of the earth and you have reason enough to go weak in the knees. Thanks to our day jobs, we are allowed to stalk, track and take photos of someone we are obsessed with without being judged by society. We did exactly that.

Turns out she’s more than just a beautiful face and voice. Believe it or not, she’s completing her MBBS. Beauty with brains, talk about a killer combo. This is as close to perfection as it gets if you ask us.

WHAT SORT OF WITCHCRAFT DO YOU PRACTICE IN ORDER TO DO YOUR MBBS, SING AND PERFORM, AND STILL LOOK DROP DEAD GORGEOUS 24X7?

Oh Stop. *Blushes* I don’t believe I am any different to all the beautiful girls out there. Everyone takes care of themselves in today’s world whether they be studying MBBS or Arts. I just feel blessed to have such strong supporters who love my singing and honestly no one would have known had it not been for them. So I owe them a lot really.

BUT SERIOUSLY, YOU’VE GOT A LOT ON YOUR PLATE. HOW DO YOU MANAGE EVERYTHING?

Music has always been an escape for me. As a medical student I do have a lot of studies to do but I wouldn’t say I need time aside for music, I will always have time for music.

WHAT GOT YOU INTO MUSIC?

I have my older brother to thank; he introduced me to different kinds of music. As the little sister I have always looked up to him and slowly these songs really grew on to me and when I figured out that I could sing, music has been the love of my life.

IS THERE A FAVORITE GENRE THAT YOU HAVE?

Not really, I actually listen to all types of genres. It may not look like it but I grew up listening to alternative rock.

DO YOU HAVE A CERTAIN STYLE THAT YOU RELATE WITH MOST?

In English it’s mostly R’n’b and with Nepali and Hindi it’s mostly melodious songs.

WHO ARE YOUR MUSICAL INSPIRATIONS?

I’ve always been a huge fan of Alicia Keys ever since I was a little girl, but recently I have been following a lot of Tori Kelly.

ARE YOU PLANNING ON TRYING OUT A CAREER IN MUSIC BEFORE YOU FINALLY SETTLE IN AS A DOCTOR?

No, not really. Music has always just been a hobby. It’s something that helps me think and relax. I am not really looking forward to a career in music but if the stars do align, I wouldn’t mind it.

WHAT WOULD A GUY HAVE TO DO TO GET YOUR ATTENTION?

He would need to appreciate music just as much as I do. That is a must!

HOW DO YOU REACT WHEN YOU GET HIT ON, WHICH WE ASSUME HAPPENS A LOT?

I’ve got friends who hardly let that happen and even if it does all us girl’s got each other’s backs.

Layering your look is an essential during the autumn and winter months. However, beyond this functional role, putting some thought

Layering your look is an essential during the autumn and winter months. However, beyond this functional role, putting some thought into color combinations and textures can add variety and uniqueness to your look, as well as enhancing your color options.

1.Layering Clothes

In winter you’ll often move between hot and cold environments, which is why layering is important. Being able to remove an outer layer of clothes without compromising the style of your outfit is the best thing about layering. However, it’s also one of the hardest things to get right. It means that all of your clothes have got to look great as an ensemble, as well as standalone items.

2.From thin to thick

The first layers should be the thinnest layer. Go from thin to thick: start with a shirt, add a vest and only then the jacket. This seems obvious, but we have seen people messing it up. Why this is important is because, not only it establishes an organic depth of field in the outfit you are creating, but it also helps you keep your body at a proper temperature. A vest and a jacket are better than just a big sweater, they do a better job of keeping your body at the right temperature. Also, if you get too hot, you can take one layer off and still look swell. This ensures that the most lightweight, breathable garments are closest to your skin, and the more durable, heavyweight pieces are protecting you from the elements. And, you can peel away the layers as your body temperature regulates to the indoor heat, after coming in from the cool. Smart, right?

Layering allows colourlovers to work in several different tones and shades (and even statement prints) into one unified look. For the colour-shy, layering means you can hide the bold hues and patterns as under layers, quietening their noise under a neutral and/or block coloured top coat or shirt jacket.

As always, put neutrals between pieces of color, following the rules of color matching. And don’t just go for dark shades. Lighter neutrals are very acceptable, even in winter, and add a freshness to the cooler season.

Concerned about the office commute? Start with the suit. Considering the two-piece garment will take up most of the bulk of your look, you want one that’s warm and naturally textured, achieved via pure wool or flannel and a subtle check or stripe pattern. A single-breasted navy or grey suit is versatile and business ready, teamed with a cotton twill button up (a thicker shirt fabric weave for warmth). Add a coloured tie in knitted silk and waistcoat (matching or contrast), or a cardigan (or even a denim jacket for something edgy). The middle layer should add in texture without too much extra bulk. Then, layer a tailored overcoat in wool.

Layering Colors When it comes to layering clothes, one of the biggest issues you’re going to encounter is color coordinating. When you’re wearing lots of different items of clothing, the risk of color-clashing becomes a lot larger. Therefore, it’s important to make sure that the colors you’re wearing compliment each other and don’t ruin the look of your outfit.

If you paid attention in your grade 4th Social Studies class, you should be familiar with the name Arniko. If

If you paid attention in your grade 4th Social Studies class, you should be familiar with the name Arniko. If you did not, we are talking about the man, the myth, the legend; Arniko. Well, not really a myth because he did exist and he certainly was a man, and undeniably a legend. Why else would a whole highway be named after him, right? He was a key national figure who made a big name for himself in Nepal and even in India and China by his works in the field of Art and Architecture. Now, we’ll spare you the history of this great man and divert your attention to a great company by the same name.

Arniko Products has been doing what they have been doing since 2007. They started out with producing handmade wooden skateboards and now they have added clothing into their impressive catalogue. These garments are made in Nepal and India and ship internationally to Switzerland. Domestically, they have an outlet at RS Moto, Gahana Pokhari, Kathmandu. We here at TNM love the style of these clothes and have put together 2 outfits along with a few other products they showcase, keeping the fall season in mind.

For the time when it’s a bit overcast, a jacket works wonders. The club collar shirt will make you look put together and honestly, one can never go wrong with well fitting denim. The shoes are in the same collar pallet to insure you stand out and look cool. And to top it off, a beachy hat to make you nostalgic of the summer days. The beard oil and hair pomade will make sure that the head the people see is an admirable example of a gentleman’s head.

Shirt: 3000

Jeans: 4500

Fall’s here so it’s a good idea to break out the warmer clothes. The perfect top for years has been the sweatshirt and this example with the nice dhaka pocket detail reminds us of our Nepalese roots. Any wearer will be warm and proud. You’re warm on the tops but you still need to have that element of cool. That’s where the pants come it with it’s vibrant color. This outfit was put together for the casual man about town. The shoes will help you walk your stylish walk while the backpack will store the things you come across on that stylish walk. If you’re in the cruising mood, Arniko’s best know for their handmade skateboards. Take a shower with the soap and you’re sure to turn heads with your manly musk and when they land their eyes on the hat, it’ll be the cherry on the top.

There seems to be a social stigma against things made in Nepal. We associate it with low quality and just

There seems to be a social stigma against things made in Nepal. We associate it with low quality and just plain out rip-off products. We’d rather spend on something by Benetton or Levi’s than wear a Nepalese brand. And that’s why we’re here to bust this myth. Don’t get us wrong, Benetton and Levi’s are great; but what we want to prove is that Nepalese products can come par with these international levels. Here, we have put together three outfits using nothing but Made in Nepal.

1ST LOOK

Every man needs to dress up nicely. But for most of us, dressing up in suits is accompanied by annoying comments like “going to a party?”. So it’s best to keep
it casual, yet put together. The shirt is from Karuna Wears and the pants are from Stemp. Both garments are made from cotton and hemp so it’s light, organic, breezy and supports the Nepalese makers. The binding factor here is the coat from Pozak, giving that elegant factor. You may go for a pair of shades from Anthropose.

2ND LOOK

If classy is not your thing, just casual is more than okay. Yet, you still want to have that badass edge, and you can’t get more badass than with a leather jacket. Latido makes custom leather jackets that’s unique to your body to induce some attitude into your look. Pair it with a hemp shirt from Stemp and you’re sure to turn some heads. Employ
a pair of shades from Anthropose so they don’t catch you looking at them, maintaining your aura of cool.

3RD LOOK

Life is not always about work. There’s play in it and it’s essential for a man to work hard and play hard. When it’s time to play hard, make sure you look good while doing it. We suggest the shirt and pants from Karuna Wears and a checkered acrylic coat from Pozak. And to tie it all off, rock a fun bow tie from Stemp and get ready to be showered with phone numbers from hot girls and guys who appreciate a well dressed player.

Bijay Gautam established and launched BE Labels in 2015. The Label has gained popularity for their originality and quality of its printed fabrics and garments especially with Signature Wear by Bijay Gautam and high street saree brand Drape Democracy.

The Autumn of 2016 saw the debut release of his men’s wear line which are branded under Gautam Pret’. It features an assortment of linen and cotton wear which have been inspired by simple design, cuts and subtle and pastel hues. Ikkat print kurtas on premium south Indian cotton makes it an easy wear over linen/cotton or denim trousers.

We had one of our good friends and contributors, Abhishek Maskey, try on some of the clothings from the lineup. Check it out.

Abhishek Maskey, a good friend and contributor, is a creative genius. He is razor sharp with his rhetorics and to top it off, he can charm his way through pretty much everything.

Passionate about education and presentations he is currently
an MBA student, Interim CEO at Ebeema and is the Brand and Relationship Officer at King’s College. He is known for his charismatic presentation skills, marketing ideas, graphic designing and brand management and seems to be doing a good job at doing so many things.

The gym or gymnasium, if you harbor a special place for fancy words, is more than a place where people

The gym or gymnasium, if you harbor a special place for fancy words, is more than a place where people go to lift weights and hear symphonies of grunts and heavy breathing. It’s a social platform, and as any other place of social convention, you need to be presentable.

Just imagine a scenario. You walk into a gym and just as you enter, you spot a spicy senorita working the squat rack and fancy a chat with her. Chances are, if you’re sporting a pair of generic baggy trousers and stay-at-home t-shirts your chances of stirring her fancy fall within the range of zero and nada. It’s not good gym etiquette to chat up women who are there to work out but we’ll overlook this one in certain cases.

You’ve been working hard on your body. You’ve got the abs, the shields, the guns and the wheels. But where did you go wrong? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see where you went wrong? Take a look in the mirror and you will spot the fallacy. You’re wearing that old faded and loose t-shirt that you got in your Bhai Tika three years ago. If you’ve been in this situation, then fret no more. Here are a few things that you can do to upgrade and help you get that foxy lady back.

TOPS

On instinct, we think that it’s better to wear old clothes that you don’t wear anymore to the gym. You are going to get sweaty and stinky so why ruin your good clothes, right? Wrong. Think about it. There’s a reason why you don’t want to wear that ratty tee around town. So why should the gym be an exception?

DO: Wear a t-shirt that keeps moisture away from your body. Synthetic fiber works the best. Also, it is highly recommended to wear something warm. Now, it’s natural to think that you should wear less at the gym but here’s the thing; when you wear warm clothes, your joints are secure and the extra heat is good to shed some water weight. So, wear things like hoodies and sweatshirts. And above all, get something that fits your body. Not loose, not tight.

DON’T: Stay away from cotton! Yes, yes, most of the tees in your closet are cotton but they are the worst when you start to sweat. They stick to your skin and there is good reason why athletes don’t wear cotton when they play? And did you know words like beast, animal, machine are actually metaphors for douchebag? You may be one, but there’s no need to announce it. Stay away from prints like that. Also, please. Just please. No Rupa Frontline or Amul gungies.

HIT OR MISS: Compression clothes. They are great. They really are. They hold your mass together so that you don’t swell up. Plus, they’re pretty much superhero clothing. But if you’re someone with a belly, it won’t do much to disguise it. But if you’re up for embracing that extra mass and quiet proud of it, we say go for it.

BOTTOMS

Bottoms are tricky because it’s hard to get a full range of motion. The way to improve on that is to get a good pair of shorts or trousers. Again, this is a no-ratty zone. In fact, every zone is a no-ratty zone.

DO: Keeping up with trends, keep things nice and tapered. If you’re going for shorts, they should end an inch or two below your knee. Pants should go no more than you’re ankles. If they’re long, you’ll risk the possibility of tripping and looking like a total dork. You have the freedom to go cotton here, just make sure you don’t have a prominent dick print. Get something with a drawstring as well. Sometimes elastic bands are not enough. You don’t want people to see your crack when you do squats do you?

DON’T: As sad as it is, there are people who work out in jeans. Don’t be that guy. Yes, you may own the comfiest pair of denims but please, don’t work out in it. If you want your jeans to last long, don’t expose them to the wear
of the gym. The rule here is to abstain from anything that’s not sportswear. With that being said, you may ask, “What about Speedos? They’re sports.” NO! And you do have the liberty to go a little loose, but just a little, not baggy. It limits your articulation.

HIT OR MISS: Short-shorts are something to consider. They offer a great range of motion but if you don’t have the quads, don’t do it.

HEAD GEAR

The purpose of headgear at the gym is debatable. Some may like them, some don’t see any point in them. Regardless, they do have a few purposes. The three main ones are to absorb sweat, keep your head warm and hold back your hair. Other than that, there isn’t much else.

DO: If it is holding your long hair back, you can go with a beanie. It’s also good at providing you with some warmth. But if it’s not the warmth you want, just tie your hair up with a band. If it’s neither the case, don’t put in much effort, you’re good with nothing.

DON’T: If you’re not Roger Federer or a Samurai Sensei, you have no permission to wear a headband. Yes, it is practical to wear them as they absorb sweat, but really, you’ll look like a dork.

HIT OR MISS: It’s common to see guys wearing baseball caps to the gym and for the most part, they do look good in it. But, just ask yourself why you need it. The brim of the hat might get in the way, so think about that.

FOOT WEAR

We have seen men workout bare feet on countless occasions. And on all occasions we have asked: Why? Footwear is important. Also, you should know that you should own at least two pairs of shoes. One with
a flat sole and one with some heel. The flat one is for when you’re doing lifts and squats. The flat surface displaces the effort evenly so you don’t lose any energy. The heeled on is for cardio and other general exercises.

DO: Get a shoe that fits. If you don’t know the importance of proper size, you need to get out of that rock you call your abode. Also, the shoe should be slim to compliment the tapered fit you’re going for.

The socks should be thick and low rising, till the ankle and no more. You have the freedom to go crazy on the colors here.

DON’T: Don’t get shoes that are other than sports. You might want to show off your double monk straps as much as you can, but really, gym is no place for those. Don’t bring in ratty shoes and socks that go up to your knees? This ain’t the 80’S. Also, they tend to ride down so it’s not very practical.

HIT OR MISS: Converse and Vans were originally for sports. They have a sturdy flat sole so you might be able to get away with it.

ACCESSORIES

As the name suggests, it’s just an addition to what you’re wearing. You don’t really need it, but is helpful to have it. However, one should always keep in mind not to overdo it. Keep functionality in mind and you should be good.

DO: Wristbands are great. If you’re sweating, you can wipe your forehead with it. They provide protection when you’re lifting. And they also make your arms look bigger. So wristbands are recommended. Next, you will want to keep track of time, so get a watch with a chronograph feature and water resistance. At times you might need an extra boost and music is a great way to do that. Get a pair of earphones that sits nice and snug in your ear so that they don’t fall out and kill your vibe. To protect your hands, you might want to get yourselves a pair of gloves that have a grippy palm when lifting.

DON’T: When we said watch, we meant digital. Something like a G-Shock. Not your Tissots or Taghs. Besides, have you ever tried to figure analogue chronograph? It’s just a complex timepiece and yes, that complexity needs to be admired. Just not at the gym. One more thing; necklaces. No. Mittens, woolen gloves, surgical gloves? Dude. No!

HIT OR MISS: It’s best not to use headphones, even if they’re bluetooth. They’re always the risk of them falling off when jumping and like the brim of hats, it restricts free motion. But they’re noise cancelling and may aid you to focus more into your session. Just be careful with it.

Prakiran is successful, and he’s young. While that is a winning combo that propels you amongst the eligible bachelors of the market, it also sheds a scornful light on you. More often than not, people are quick to judge you as the guy who was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Everyone will smile and nod, but you have to work that much harder to make sure people take you seriously. First impressions count, especially when it helps accentuates your personality.

Prakiran Shrestha is the Business Strategist for Machan Wildlife Resort, Director of Anthropose, Director of Maidan Futsal , co-founder of Sastodeal.com (WINNER OF ICT START-UP AWARD- 2016), Co founder and COO of Yakamoz Technology. He previously part-owned Irish pub and is now coming up with yet another new bustling spot in town. Considering that he is only just cruising through his mid twenties, it’s safe to say, he has proved his salt.

While executive job positions in companies are predominantly held by 35+ year olds, Prakiran has excelled at what he does. For a young working professional who is making massive strides in the profession, he looks the part. Prakiran has a simple yet cultivated style that distinguishes him from the rest.

We talk to him about his style and appearance here.

I AM ALWAYS REDISCOVERING MY STYLE. STYLE SHOULD ALWAYS BE EVOLVING OTHERWISE IT GETS BORING. RIGHT NOW, I WOULD DEFINE MY STYLE AS CREATIVE, PRACTICAL AND FASHION-FORWARD.

SINCE WE ARE REPRESENTING A FASHION BRAND, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR US TO PORTRAY A STYLE THAT RELATES TO OUR BRAND IDENTITY.

MY DRESSING STYLE USUALLY REVOLVES AROUND MY WORK. I BELIEVE THAT YOUR DRESSING SENSE SHOULD REFLECT YOUR LIFESTYLE.

YOU’RE IN YOUR TWENTIES AND YOU ALREADY HAVE SO MANY THINGS ON YOUR PLATE. HOW DID IT START?

I was pursuing my bachelor degree at Ace Institute
of Management, that’s when I started working on my entrepreneurial ventures. Most of my friends were abroad, studying, and I basically had a lot of free time. That phase acted as a catalyst that made me a serial entrepreneur. Our start-ups had a humble beginning and once it clicked I had an urge to be involved in something new again.

HOW IMPORTANT IS LOOKING PRESENTABLE FOR YOU?

When you look good you definitely portray yourself as a thoughtful person, there is no blundering around and you put your message on point when you appear presentable. So yeah, it is an important factor to give attention to.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?

I appreciate good fashion and I like fabrics that are comfortable, light and of good quality. That’s one of the influences that kicked off one of our ventures, Anthropose. It’s the first Nepalese sunglass brand. Because we are representing a fashion brand, it is very important to portray a style that relates to our brand identity. My style is simple and comfortable. My dressing style usually revolves around my work. I believe that your dressing sense should reflect your lifestyle. So I would say I express myself the best way I can in formals or semi formals that I wear to work and play.

WHAT MORE COULD YOU SAY ABOUT YOUR INDIVIDUAL STYLE?

I am always rediscovering my style. Style should always be evolving otherwise it gets boring. Right now, I would define my style as creative, practical& fashion-forward

ARE YOU BRAND CONSCIOUS?

No, not really. But having said that, it is true that good brands produce good quality. I am not brand specific but I am quality conscious.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE SPENDING ON THE MOST?

I am a big time foodie so I spend a lot on food. I won’t mind splurging on food if it is worth the money.
What would you say is your most prized possession?

My suits, I’ve been investing in a few of them lately. But these things keep changing so maybe my most prized possession could be something else after a while.

IS THERE A SPECIFIC SHADE OF COLOR YOU PREFER?

Grey is my favorite, army green and olive shades are my new fascination. I’d go for navy blues if I wanted to play it safe.

ACCESSORIZING, WHAT’S YOUR SAY ON THAT?

Usually, watches are considered an important fashion accessory that serves an important role. Personally though, my smartphone works as my watch and I don’t feel it is mandatory to wear a watch. I never leave home without my wallet, computer, my phone and my battery pack. I own every model of Anthropose sunglasses ever made. And I am planning on investing on a Fitbit too.

I’ve been stuck on the BVLGARI AQVA for some time now, I love its fresh fragrance and it fits in in any occasion.

WHERE WOULD WE MOST LIKELY FIND YOU WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?

I really like Vino Bistro at Lazimpat,
a wine place with great ambiance and food. It’s run by Antoine Garet, he’s a French restaurateur who has been doing it right for the place. And I socialize at house parties.

WHO INSPIRES YOU THE MOST IN TERMS OF FASHION?

My dad is a very stylish man. He looks effortlessly good in almost anything he wears. He keeps up with the recent trends and can even pull off a hoodie with jeans! I have always envied his wardrobe. He has got exquisite tastes in suits and blazers.

YOUR MANTRA?

Get moving to manage stress and pump up your endorphins. Do it by going out, exercising or partying. After a hard day’s work find some peace alone. Also, learn to trust people and delegate; you can’t do everything yourself. Make your team efficient. Maintain a harmonious relationship with your team members inside/ outside the workplace.

Every once in a while, treat yourself with something nice. . Drink lots of water after a night out. Do not judge people too quickly. Worry less and plan ahead. Spend some quality family at least once a week.

Style is a simple way of saying complicated things so being picky about what you wear and being careful about what you express is important if you are someone starting your own clothing line.
Binson Shrestha is juggling a lot of things at the moment. He has co-founded a hemp based clothing line called ‘Stemp’ , co founded another company that deals with custom made suits called ‘Suit up’, is one of the Board of Directors of International Club,Sanepa and is also taking preparation classes for his Post- Graduate Studies.

Binson understands the significance of making a statement with his presence and his style is an important asset to achieve that.Especially now that he works he feels it is mandatory to look presentable to maintain the corporate culture. Young, energetic and suave he has managed his roles and looked pretty good while at it.

We discussed more about his style and what makes him different

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START A CLOTHING LINE?

Back in Brooklyn while travelling
on the train everyday back and forth from work my friends and I had a lot of time to check different people’s styles. I wanted to create something that was comfortable yet stylish inspired by the everyday hustle of the city.

We started Stemp with basic handicraft items. Since my friends and I were really into fashion, and it so happened to be that my brother’s best friend was a fashion designer, we decided to get things going with a store that provided something stylish but utilizing basic materials.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?

You create your own style at least that is what I think. I am into fashion but I am not into trends; the definition of style is what you want it to be. Nepal and New York are different stories, so in New York I used to dress up in the savviest way possible. But here I mostly wear formals.

I like changing how I dress depending on where I am and why I’m there. To be honest, it also depends on how I feel on that particular day.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE ATTIRE?

Lately I have been wearing a lot of suits mostly because I have started working for my father. The situation requires corporate attire so I think for now I favor formals the most. Also I wear suits most of the times to promote my company Suit-up. On a regular basis, when I am wearing casuals, I believe proper combinations are what I go for. Since its summer, I love wearing comfortable shorts and tees.

WHAT ARE THE SHADES OF COLORS AND BRANDS THAT WE CAN FIND IN YOUR CLOSET THE MOST?

Hemp clothes are most abundant in my closet because we are quality testing for Stemp by getting a feel of the products ourselves.

In general, I prefer blue and other bright colors rather than jeans. I like experimenting with bright colors, unlike most guys, so you will find shades of red, maroon, yellow etc. I like to support local brands but I am not specifically brand conscious.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ACCESSORY?

Definitely watches. I am never without one. My current favorite is the one that I am wearing from Armani Exchange.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO SPLURGE ON?

Perfumes. I have been using my all time favorite Davidoff Cool water since ages ago but I experiment with other perfumes too. I love my collection which consists of CK, Davidoff, Bvlgari and Burberry at the moment.

“I AM INTO FASHION BUT I AM NOT INTO TRENDS; THE DEFINITION OF STYLE IS WHAT YOU WANT IT TP BE.”

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS CARRY WITH YOURSELF?

The basics like my phone, my wallet and laptop. I also have an old school diary which I use as a planner because it helps me be organized. Name one common fashion faux pas.

In my opinion oversized and baggy clothes take away the charm of being a man. I would probably recommend slim fit or body fit to most people because it brings out the suaveness. I would suggest people to #suitup! (See what I did there?)

WHO INSPIRES YOU
THE MOST IN TERMS OF FASHION?

I go through looks on Instagram. I follow a lot of Men’s pages that give out ideas and inspiration on how to dress. The page that I follow the most is Menssuitsdaily.

Sohyal Karki knows full well of the advantages of looking exceptional. He has his hands full as a Real Estate Developer, Investor, and Education Entrepreneur, but that has never held him back from looking dapper every day of the week.

We discuss the importance of looking good at work and more about his style.

DOES WHAT YOU WEAR AFFECT HOW YOU FEEL?

Absolutely! Dressing up well automatically adds to my confidence level and comfort. To look good and feel great about it as a business minded person takes effort, because you need to find the balance between being neither over- dressed nor under-dressed. So I particularly ensure that I manage to squeeze time outs with my tailor for this purpose from my busy schedule.

WHAT 3 THINGS DO YOU ALWAYS CARRY WITH YOU?

I am always on the move and work is such that I constantly have to be on the run. So I make sure I never leave home without my smartphones, car keys and a well-loaded wallet.

HOW IMPORTANT IS GROOMING AND ATTIRE FOR A YOUNG WORKING PROFESSIONAL?

Well, this is a matter of personal choice. For instance, corporate biggies like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were never highly conscious about the fashion trends of their time, and they still managed to leave an inspirational mark in the corporate world. But not all of us can be Bill or Steve.

So as a young working professional today, I personally think it’s very important to always be impeccably dressed, physically fit and well groomed. The clothes you wear and how well you carry yourself definitely counts in setting up a good first impression, and people also tend to take you more seriously.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?

I think style should not just be limited to catching up with the latest of fashion trends. Along with being well-dressed, it’s very important for me to be highly respectful, well spoken, intelligent, physically fit and confident in every manner.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CLOTHING COMBO?

I make sure that I am always well-suited when it comes to formal occasions and work. Otherwise, I don’t mind donning casual wear. It’s ironic how being hard pressed for time has instilled in me a passion for watches. I ensure that my attire is well teamed-up with a chic watch from my collection.

YOU LIKE TO SPLURGE ON?

My holidays, lifestyle and family. Absolutely no second thoughts about it. I work very hard everyday just so that I can afford all this extravagance and live a life without any limitations.

YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION?

My Honda CBR 600RR and Landrover Freelander 2.

DRESSING UP WELL AUTOMATICALLY ADDS TO MY CONFIDENCE LEVEL AND COMFORT
