CONNOISSEUR’S DELIGHT in SALON DE KATHMANDU

Salon de Kathmandu Café & Bistro is a hideout; away from the hustle of busy streets and into the territory of good mood, fine food, and pleasant ambience. Located in Kumari Mai Marg, Lazimpat and owned by a humble Korean couple, Salon de Kathmandu’s first impression is that of peace and quiet. And the tagline is just about right: An oasis in this busy Kathmandu city.

HAMBURG STEAK

The dish contains a Japanese styled Hamburg patty, grilled veggies, cheese, fried egg, plain clammy rice, and onion sauce. The patty, which is made of ground meat is half pork and half buff. And the best part of it all is the patty, the veggies, the cheese, the fried egg, the spicy rice, the onion sauce – oops, did mention all of the contents? That’s right. The whole dish is just best on its own. The patty is impeccably cooked, has no choking dryness, and exceeds all our expectations. The egg is finely fried with the yolk hard boiled with a bit of crunchiness on the edges of the whites. The onion sauce is delectable and excellent in doing; simply dragging the fork in it feels appetizing!

FRIED SNACK PLATTER WITH MINI SALAD

This platter consists of fried teriyaki chicken, cut up pigs in blanket, and fried meat cheese roll on mini salad, and chili-mayo dressing to tag along. In other words, #forgetaboutthecalories. The crust is perfectly crisp and the chicken is adequately sautéed with pale tangy flavour. The cut up pigs in blanket is the highlight of the platter; the sausage inside is neutral to the taste to dilute the spicy chicken from before. The roll outside is another “crisp-heaven”, having the right amount of crumbliness in it. Now, fried meat cheese roll in a mini salad is a perfect denouement to the entire plate; no words can ever possibly express the amount of aptness it gives to the snack platter with its taste. Even while digging my fork on the meat cheese roll, my inner subtle gastronome could feel satisfaction seeping in.

SPICY CHICKEN RICE BOWL

Spicy chicken and rice in a bowl alongside poached egg with mini salad. One word: Yum! As the name suggests, the chicken is piquant enough to prickle taste buds. The sticky texture of it then balances the sensation of spiciness. The poached egg is what an epicurean would call “overdone” but personally, the yolk being solid is a plus point in the meal as the whites still maintain their well-done crust and “originality”. As de Kathmandu’s specialty, the dish is fine bite after bite.

SALAD WITH RICOTTA CHEESE SPRINKLE

And the healthiest part of the total menu is this Salad. A plate of fresh greens with juicy red tomatoes, cut up olives, topped with grated almonds and pomegranate seeds, the salad is equally palatable. A superb wrap up to a hearty meal and dash of health supplement, the most crucial attraction to this greens filled salver is that all the ingredients in it are home grown! So are the dressings, making everything about gustatory gratification!
