Makeup for Masculinity

1

Queen Victoria I considered makeup as vulgar. Hence, the Church of England deemed it so and created an equation between it and femininity.

Mercifully however, coming to the 21st Century, makeup is no work of the Devil. It is simply an act of accentuating one’s beauty and hiding the flaws. Nothing wrong with that. But what is wrong is that it’s still considered a woman’s thing.

It’s about time that we break the chains of narrowed masculinity and accept that beauty products on men isn’t weird anymore.

Having said that, if you look into the history books, from 4000 B.C. to the 18th Century, men have used makeup in their own way. From making elaborate cat-eye designs to red pigments on cheeks, scholars have evidently recorded it. So this effort of ours to pick up the makeup brush isn’t really that new. And now that you know, here’s a few ways on how you can as well.

Primer

The first step after the no-brainer-wash-your-face-duh is to apply a primer. This process is basically your base and works to protects the skin from the chemicals you’ll be putting on. In addition, a primer provides an oily surface if you have dry skin, and inversely, a dry surface if your skin’s listed by the Saudi princes for oil mining. Likewise, it also smoothens the skin. And if you have facial hair, it prevents foundation from settling on the hair follicles

Foundation

Acne is depressing, and is crippling when they leave behind a scar to remind you of its torment. What we have here may be a bandage for a dismembered limb, but at least right? So, after the primer, dab a bit of foundation and blend it all over the face. Apart from hiding the pimples, this will also disguise the blemishes, even out the uneven parts, and make the skin look a single color.

One thing that you imperatively need to consider is that the foundation matches your skin tone, or at least come the closest to it. Then, also consider that this product comes as a liquid, as a stick, or a powder puck. Do that’s easiest to you.

Brow filler

If you think a good haircut and a proper trim of the beard is enough to make you look good, sit down, it’s reality check time. Your eyebrows need the same level of grooming as well. So, trim it, brush it, and fill it. Fill it how? With these doohickies of course.

And the cool thing about them is that it not only works for the brows, but also handy in maintaining any hairline. Got a bit of white strands on the beard? The brow filler to the rescue. Comes as a powder and as gel, but both of them do the same

Lip balm

Would you look at that, you’ve been using makeup all along! If you’ve ever cared to not have your lips look like a zombie’s that is. But if you’re creative enough, it’ll do more good than just give you kissable lips. It’ll work to tame flyaway hair, keep your eyebrows in place, and even relieve shoe bites.

Blenders

With all of the things you’ll be putting on your face, you will be needing something to actually put them on. For this, beauty blenders are the best. They’re essentially shaped sponges that help you apply the products and blend them on the skin.

While blenders are good for liquids, you can alternatively go for brushes as well for they work well with powders and solids.
