Style is often a reflection of your attitude and personality, which is why there is so much more that goes into it than just the clothes and accessories you wear. What you say, how you behave; every tiny detail adds up to create a personality and style. The heads a well-dressed man turns is a mere bonus to the confidence it inspires in him. Keeping that in mind, we present you Avash Nirola. A man who reflects the class and charisma his attire represents unlike many others who just seem to use it as a façade; a rarefind in today’s age. An air of sophistication, proper manners and a charismatic personality are all part of the mystique. Being a true gent is truly a combination of many things and that’s what this ultimate gentleman is all about.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

Well, that is a tough one. I live by certain values that guide me through life. I am firm believer of karma. I try to seek out the good in everything and everyone. I also believe that the purpose of our lives is to continuously learn and grow. I try to learn one new thing everyday. Be it a new word or a new concept or even guitar chords to a new song. I also value relationships a lot and have a tendency to make friends quickly. I have no hidden agendas for making friends and nothing makes me happier than spending time with my family and friends. Another thing that makes me happy is making a difference in people’s lives.

2. What sort of role does fashion play in your life?

Fashion is more than just wearing designer or clothes that are in vogue; it is a lifestyle. It encompasses much more than just what you wear. Your behavior and attitude are also a part of fashion. You might be wearing a Versace suit, but if you can’t back it up with other elements of your personality like your body language, and common etiquettes, it really doesn’t make sense.

3. How would you describe your sense of style?

I am very open when it comes to style and I don’t adhere to any particular style image. It depends on the season and occasion. More importantly, I think style is about your attitude.

4. What is your go to article of clothing in your wardrobe?

Something that you would be ok wearing everyday if you had to. Something that I am ok to wear everyday are my jeans and t-shirt. Of course in winters you have to add layers to that. But at work, I always dress formally.

5. In your opinion, what is the most important part of being well-dressed?

The most important thing is how you present yourself as a brand. It’s similar to how products in the market try to stand out through their packaging and display. A well-dressed man is a well-noticed man. It helps create a packaging of your brand and helps you stand out from the rest.

6. What is the difference between a welldressed man and an average dressed man?

As mentioned, the fact that you will stand out helps a lot in both your personal and professional lives. A well-dressed man has a persona that people will remember and want to be associated with. You will be able to foster relationships quicker and in the long run be able to leverage on that.

7. Do you have a favorite brand?

None as such. I go for various brands depending on some specific qualities I am looking for. Jack & Jones make great vintage t-shirts, Levi’s makes great jeans, Zara has a good collection of parkas and other outerwear and Woods has great and comfortable shoes.

8. Is there anyone who you look to as inspiration or do you cook up your own styling?

Most times I like doing my own styling. I do not have any particular fashion inspiration however, I do flip through my share of magazines like GQ, Esquire and TNM to get a sense of where the trend is heading. (speaking like a man of good taste)

9. Do you own any heirlooms that hold a special place in your heart?

I have a 1967 Omega Seamaster that my Grandfather handed to my father and eventually has come to me.

YOUR OUTER APPEARANCE IS IMPORTANT. IT IS NOT EVERYTHING, BUT IT IS IMPORTANT. BE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR OWN SKIN DON’T BLANDLY COPY WHAT OTHERS LOOK GOOD IN.

10. What is the first thing you want people to notice about you?

I do not know if I would want them to notice but everyone notices my mustache. However, I would want people to notice more than what I am on the outside because yes, first impressions are always important but how someone is on the inside is equally important too.

11. Grooming is a very important aspect, even more so for someone with a moustache as magnificent as yours. Tell us about your grooming habits and what it takes to keep the ‘stache in ship-shape.

Haha, this moustache gets a fair bit of attention. I spend about 10 minutes a day combing my ‘stache to give it shape and regular visits to the barber is a must for keeping it groomed. Facial hair has a way of going crazy in all direction if you don’t pay attention to it. I also apply wax to give it shape.
12. Any style/grooming/fashion tips that you would have for us?
Your outer appearance is important. It is not everything, but it is important. Be comfortable in your own skin don’t blandly copy what others look good in. Figure out your own sense of style and pay attention to details. Your wallets, watches, cuff links, and other accessories are very important but often overlooked.
Get a good haircut. A haircut defines your look. You can wear the sharpest suit but without a sharp haircut it is incomplete. All your efforts of dressing well and looking sharp will not carry well if your body language is not right. Focus on your overall body language as well.
